Chapter Nine

It was beginning to get dark, but the travel through the deep forest was even darker, as Allison held onto Steve, while they rode with Kara. The ride to the White Queen’s castle was a bit away for them, but it would’ve been a lot longer, if they were to walk.

“We should stop right here, and take a break” Kara suggested. “There’s a stream nearby, and we probably have quite a way to go to reach the White Queen’s castle, in Marmoreal.”

Steve pulled on the reins to get the horse to slow down. They all stopped before a running stream. Kara, Steve, and Allison got off their horses and led the horses closer to get a drink of water.

Allison gave herself a stretch, since she hadn’t been on a horse in so long. She was curious to know why Kara was willing to help them, when she was working for the Red Queen? Who was she, anyway?

Kara bent down and took a sip of water herself. She stood up and looked back at Allison, who glared at her. She was stirred when she asked, “What?”

“Who are you, Kara? Why did you save us?”

“I saved you, because I need to take you see the White Queen,” Kara answered.

Allison wasn’t satisfied with that answer. She pressed, “I know, but why did you save us? Who are you, really?”

“I’m a sorceress working for the White Queen. She had sent me to serve the Red Queen, after she learned about her assassination attempt. My job was to poison the Red Queen and Lord Knave, but I was also told by the White Queen to summon you over, in order to help save the last of the Chimera Clan from death.”

“You were the one who really brought me here?” Allison questioned.

“Not me, but the White Queen. I was doing her bidding; making sure that you arrived and kept the Chimera safe inside you, until the harvest moon tomorrow night.”

Steve approached her. “So, wait a minute, you planned this whole thing so she would come here and host some creature inside her.”

Kara shook her head. “The Chimera is not some creature; it is the twin brother of Willow – Mr. Hatter’s lover.”

“Who is Mr. Hatter?” Steve was confused.

“It’s a long story, Steve.” Allison explained. She then asked, “Why do they want to kill the Chimera?”

“Because the Chimera is the only creature that is capable of stopping Lord Knave and the Red Queen. Once the Chimera is released, it will destroy them both and peace will finally be restored all throughout Wonderland.”

“What did you mean when you said that you were to poison the Red Queen and Lord Knave?” Steve asked.

“After the White Queen learned about her assassination attempt, and who it was the Red Queen had hired, she immediately sent me over as a sorceress for the Red Queen. I tricked them into killing the succubus and drinking her blood in order to obtain magical powers. The plan had worked, and the magic of the succubus was working for them, but the prophecy is beginning to come to pass.
