Chapter Ten
“Why are you sad, Alina?” Hunter frowned at me from across the table. Last time I’d seen him, he’d stormed off, upset that I was spending the night with Blake and Zach. But that was the plan. And I didn’t know him well enough to tell if it was rivalry or jealousy.
And it reinforced my point. The guys didn’t belong to me. “It’s over. I go home tomorrow morning.”
“Are you disappointed with your trip?” Todd slid his chair closer to me and topped off my mimosa. There was so much more I’d miss besides the guys and the sex. The personal chef. The sunshine. The beach. And most of all, the freedom and the feeling that I could achieve anything.
Sure, I could do all those things in Cleveland, but I had responsibilities. I didn’t resent my mom for getting sick. Not at all. Like Hunter had said, I was lucky to have this chance to spend time with her and to make sure she was taken care of the way she wanted. Not everyone had that opportunity.
“Hell no.” My wildest dreams had come true, even if it wasn’t forever. “I’m thinking about my mom. And I wonder if the next time I’d have this kind of time for myself will mean she’s too sick for me to care for.”
Or worse.
Todd leaned in and kissed me. I let myself get lost in it, the sweet peach nectar on his lips my souvenir from a weekend I wouldn’t be able to share with anyone. I could never tell my sister or Katie every detail of my vacation. I wasn’t ashamed of what I’d done. I wouldn’t be able to bear the disappointment when they didn’t understand why this had been so important to me.
These four guys understood me more than the people who were supposed to be closest to me.
Hunter rose and rounded the table. He put his hand on my shoulder, that gentle suggestion enough to coax me away from Todd and to accept his kiss. He knew exactly how to take my pain away.
“What is this, an encore?” Blake said as he arrived hand in hand with Zach. I loved that they were comfortable enough with me to share something they’d been forced to keep a secret.
“Maybe.” I let the word linger on my lips. “I didn’t think there was an opportunity for a second round.”
And how would I choose who to be with? There was no way I could go from one bungalow to another. This wasn’t about the sex. Every single one of them made me feel amazing, like I was the center of the universe. And more than that, each man shared a piece of themselves with me that they didn’t show to the rest of the world. It was a gift no one could buy.
The guys looked at each other, a silent negotiation happening around me. I took a long sip of my mimosa and tried to decide which one I would choose, if it came down to that.
