Gorren sat at the table as his servants brought his food. He would win over this woman. He knew she couldn’t resist him for long. He was too powerful. Without a doubt the best in the land. He’d defeated all enemies that ever lay before him, and was rivaled only by his brother in power and prowess.

The woman was interested in him, he knew it. He could smell it on her, see it in the way she looked at him. She desired what he had to offer, but was foolish enough to think she could resist. He would show her what it was like to live under the roof of an alpha. This was his home, his kingdom. Even if she thought she could get away, where was she to go? There was no true escape for her.

He would dote on her, feed her, treat her like a queen and she would become his. Gorren sat and swirled the wine in his glass as he thought about her. She was truly remarkable. He’d never met such a strong-willed woman. He could’ve taken her against her will, as was custom. She belonged to him. Her opinion was no longer valid.

Yet, somehow, he knew that she would never see him as anything more than that were he to.

This one was special. Perhaps a mate? He toyed with the idea of such a thing and sipped his wine. Yes, a mate for him. She was strong enough, beautiful, powerful.

In time, she could come to respect him and all he had built here. She could be at his side. It was an amusing thought, and one that, the more he thought about it, he grew fond of. A mate. Could he have finally found someone to match him? Had it been fate that led him to the auction this day?

Originally, he was going to skip going. The auctions hadn’t had anything of worth in quite some time and he wasn’t interested in wasting his time. Despite this, he went anyway, and it was a good thing he did!

She was expensive, as her fight had inspired all of the other males in the audience. To break one such as she brings a great satisfaction. It wasn’t a terribly difficult thing to do.

Truthfully, she should’ve had her will broken like the others before having been brought to stage, but it was obvious this hadn’t been done. Still, what a great point of pride and boasting it would be to return to his brethren and show them that he hadn’t broken the woman, but bent her will to his own, had won her over to his side. It was a far more difficult thing to do.

It took skill, time, and patience. For someone as strong as she, it was often considered far more trouble than it was worth. Yet if he was to do this, she was perfect for it.

One of his servants came running into the dining room, stopped ten paces away and bowed. It was obvious the news he brought was urgent in the way he’d sprinted over.
