Alexi walked next to Lansing as the celebration continued far into the night. Most congratulated them, but some frowned and kept their distance. Alexi watched the frowning men. He didn’t trust them.

“Are you happy?” Katron asked as he approached Alexi.

“I am. It’s all new to me, but Lansing has treated me well.” And the lion had. Lansing hovered over him like a mama bear. It was stifling and comforting at the same time. Alexi liked having a much larger mate. It made him feel safe. And after the world he had lived in, the feeling was welcoming.

Katron nodded. “Let me know if he steps one toe out of line, brother.”

“No need.”

Alexi and Katron looked over at Fjord, who was approaching them. Alexi smirked when Katron rolled his eyes and began to walk away.

“My fan is leaving so soon?” Fjord chuckled.

“I think he wants to kick your butt,” Alexi said as he twisted his hands together. He still didn’t know why Fjord had said those horrible things to him. They were cruel and uncalled for. But he was Lansing’s brother, so Alexi was extremely confused about what to do.

“Listen, about the things I said to you. I was only looking out for my brother. I didn’t mean them. I would never have touched a hair on your head,” Fjord said as he glanced at Alexi, looking for all the world embarrassed.

Alexi snorted. “It wasn’t my hair I was worried about.”

Fjord nodded. “I deserve that. I just wanted you to know that there was no real threat behind my words. I ask you to forgive me, but I understand if you can’t.”

“I shouldn’t.” Alexi pouted as he crossed his arms over his bare chest. God, he was so not used to being almost naked. He still feared one good wind and everyone would see how far down the tattoo ran. “That was a threat that you do not hand out to someone.”

Fjord cast his eyes down, something Alexi was sure the proud lion wasn’t used to doing. He was mad beyond words at the guy. Alexi had to really consider if he was going to— “No!”

Fjord tackled Alexi to the ground, laying his heavy weight into him. Alexi struggled to get free, wondering if Fjord had lost his damn mind, or maybe he had decided to make good on his threat. He punched at Fjord’s chest, screaming for Lansing.

“Stay down,” Fjord shouted.

The place broke out into chaos, lions running around as if Armageddon was taking place. They looked panicked and were shouting at the top of their lungs. Alexi wasn’t sure what was going on, but Lansing was at his side in a heartbeat.

“Release him.”

“Brother, I wasn’t—”

“I know what you were doing, Fjord. You saved my mate’s life.”

Alexi wasn’t sure what the hell was going on, but he was relieved when Fjord rolled off of him. It wasn’t until he stood that he saw the large arrow jutting out from the ground right where he had been standing. He gulped, his eyes snapping from the arrow to Fjord.
