Chapter 8

Brandy: Drugs

“The truth is Alex…I was a mess five years ago. I actually used to be a drug addict. Back in my wild days,” I said.

He looked at me, his eyes wide with surprise.

“Really?”

“Yeah, I actually ended up dealing with a whole bunch of shit. It was only when I nearly died, that I ended up losing everything and knew that I needed to change. When I was freshly eighteen, I ended up with the wrong crowd. A group of strippers that I worked with. These girls were all doing drugs, and I tried it once. It had a terrible effect on me, but I continued to do it, because…I wanted to fit in,” I told him.

“I figured that’s probably why. You don’t seem like you’re doing that now, though,” he said.

“Yeah well, for about five years I was doing that shit. Every night I’d come into the club, do a line of coke either off the bar or in the dressing room with the ladies. I was a total mess, and I ended up losing everyone. I made money, but it all went to drugs and whatnot. I didn’t realize how far down I’d fallen until one night I overdosed. I don’t even know what the fuck it was on. Painkillers, alcohol, and coke maybe. I just remember one day I was furious, and I ended up taking a shitload of drugs. During a dance, I blacked out, and the patron at first thought I fell asleep, but when I was unconscious, they realized…I overdosed. I got taken to the hospital, got my stomach pumped, the whole nine yards,” I explained.

Alex’s eyes widened.

“Holy shit, I didn’t know,” he said.

“Yeah well, at my lowest that’s when I met Midas. He saw me when I was leaving, and he heard that I was looking for a job. I ended up telling him I couldn’t go back to the old club, and he told me that his place would be a clean ship. No drugs. I thought that this was the answer I’d been looking for. Shortly after, he got me into rehab, and I ended up cleaning up my act, getting all of that shit taken care of. He had connections to a rehab center, so I didn’t need to worry about paying.”

I remembered all of the hard work I went through, all those months just trying to clean up my act, one way or another.

“It sounds awful,” he said.

“It was awful Alex. I went through the worst withdrawals I’ve ever experienced. It made me realize I never wanted to do that shit again. Other than alcohol. After I cleaned up, I found that Midas was looking for people to work with him, so I got clean, and I went to the club. I also wanted to be cleaner too. I ended up with Kenneth because at my lowest, he gave me attention. He never knew about my drug habits. I used it to cope for the longest time, that
