It’s been one hell of a day here in Iraq. My back and shoulders are killing me, and I just want a shower and to chill out before we do it all again tomorrow. We are over here on a rescue mission and all the days seem to roll into one.

Wyatt—my best friend—enters the room in a towel having just showered, and I take advantage of being able to stare at the ripped torso that is on show, secretly letting my eyes roam his body, the water droplets running off his skin. Only I’m not fast enough to divert my eyes and he catches me looking… again. I make myself look busy, feeling like a dickhead for being caught while I try and wrap my head around the sensation that invades me whenever my eyes are on him.

I fuck women. So why does everything falter when it comes to Wyatt?

Why do my thoughts wander when it comes to him?

Why?

His low chuckle draws my eyes back. He’s still standing there in just his towel, holding it in place as he pushes it a little lower, flashing that damn V and the thin line of hair that runs down from his navel. His dog tags hang around his neck and a tribal tattoo covers one side of his chest and shoulder. Everyone knows Wyatt is gay, and everyone—including Wyatt—knows he’s a damn fucking hunk of a man.

The guys here tease him for being a pretty boy, and the cocky fucker laps up the attention of both men and women.

“What’s your smug ass laughing at?”

“That you can’t help yourself.”

I frown. “With what?”

“Don’t think I haven’t noticed.”

“Noticed what?” I start to slowly feel my insides chill, knowing full well what he’s on about, but I give him my best poker face. He quickly looks at the doorway before strolling over toward me. Wyatt may be my best friend, but he’s also intimidating at times. Only I don’t know if that’s because of his attitude or because my thoughts of him go way beyond the friend zone.

“The way you look at me.”

A nervous chuckle leaves my throat. “You been on the whiskey again?” I ask.

“So you’re not denying it?”

“I’m not owning up to anything either because you’re full of shit.”

He steps closer and like a weak child frightened by the hulk in front of me, I step back, hitting the wall as I do so.

“We both know I’m not.” He smirks. “We both know what you’re too afraid to speak of—what you’re too afraid to explore. I see you, Asher. I. See. You.”

“You’re full of shit.”

“Tell me I’m wrong.” He steps closer and my damn heart betrays me, banging like a fucking drum the closer he gets. His bodywash fills my senses, his hard body practically pressing against me. “Tell me you don’t want to know what it’s like.”

“I don’t,” I say, my voice weak.

“I don’t believe you,” he whispers, now pressing himself against me more, a move I’m secretly loving. “But while you’ve been sneaking glances at me you’ve failed to see what's right under your nose.
