One second I was bathing in the afterglow, having just made love to Taylor, thinking he was my omega again. The next, I was on the floor and he was stepping over me, pulling his clothes on and screaming to high heaven.

“Whoa, whoa. Baby, what happened? What I do?” I tried to gather my thoughts.

“You love me? Stay with you forever?” He screamed. He called me the most vicious string of names I've ever heard, and I spent a lot of time in back-water country dive bars. I jumped up, holding out my arms like I was calming a spooked mustang.

“Taylor, calm down, let's talk about this.”

“Enough talkin’,” he shouted, “you're a liar and a coward and a sorry, no-good bastard.” He shoved me full strength and Taylor was a strong man. I staggered backward a couple of steps before regaining my balance. I grabbed my pajamas up from their heap on the floor.

“Listen, Taylor, I’ll just go, and you can have a second to cool off. This ain't no good for the baby.”

“You want to leave now? Fuck me and then leave? Typical.” He shoved me again. His words cut deep, making me swallow against the lump growing in my throat. He was between me and the door so I couldn't just walk out.

“Taylor, calm down, please. This isn't good for the baby.” I struggled to get my clothes on, hopping up and down and tripping with one foot in my pants leg.

“You took advantage of me.”

“I think it was the other way around,” I said with a dry laugh.

“You lie to me and take what you want, then you leave. Now you're gonna disappear, just like last time.” I held out my hands, pleading with him.

“That's not true. I been trying to show you.”

“You can never erase what you did,” Taylor screeched, his face red and contorted with rage. I’d seen him mad, but this took the cake. I kept my voice calm and even, as best as I could.

“I know, but I'm trying to do good now. Earn your trust back.”

“You mean try to buy it with your food and shoes and things for my baby? The baby that should be yours, but she has a sperm donor for an alpha because you left me?” I tipped my head back, covering my face with my hands. Guilt ate a hole in my chest like a termite. Taylor pointed a finger at me, and I felt condemned. “You stood at the altar with me, promised to love me forever. One threat from your daddy and you folded like a card table. You couldn't have me and the money, so you chose the money.”

“Taylor, I never chose money over you, I can promise you that.” I pleaded with him, my arms out, but when I took a step toward him, he stepped back. He threw the bottle of baby oil and it exploded on the wall.

“So your daddy told you to come, and you went like a dog? You were his flunky, then?” That pissed me off.
