Matt straightened to his full height as the driver exited the Durango, then walked around to open the passenger door.

Baker stepped from the SUV. He was a big man, nearly as tall as Matt, with a lean frame, long hair, and a thin face covered by a bushy beard.

Matt’s eyes narrowed. Baker appeared much younger than his file indicated.

Baker glanced around the room and his gaze stopped when it reached Casey. A lecherous grin lit his face. He reached up and stroked his beard. “Casey Gillette. Even prettier than her picture.”

He turned his attention to Matt. “I hear you’ve been keeping her all for yourself.”

Baker studied Matt, waiting for an answer.

Remaining in character, Matt gave a curt laugh and cupped his balls in an obscene gesture. “Yep. She’s kept the boys pretty happy.”

The men’s scornful laughter echoed in the room, as they all shot Casey lusty looks. Matt’s gut roiled, wanting to kick his own ass. He dared not look toward Casey. Clearing his mind of everything but the situation before him, he drew a deep breath through his nose.

“Mr. Baker, everything is prepared, just as you directed.” Matt kept his voice calm and respectful, attempting to refocus attention away from Casey. His control was on a thin thread, barely refraining from breaking Baker’s neck as the bastard leered at his woman.

Baker returned his gaze to Matt and then nodded to his driver, who circled around to the back of the vehicle and threw open the doors. Everyone stepped over and peered inside.

Everyone but Baker, whose attention returned to Casey. Matt set his jaw, his muscles tightening in readiness, needing to keep Baker away from her. He cleared his throat and bit back the growl that rose up, filled with the need to beat the lust off the prick’s face.

Matt quickly opened a wooden crate and pushed aside the shredded newspapers, revealing the chemical cylinders underneath. He glanced toward the other men. “Place these with the other materials.”

When he raised his head from the SUV’s interior, Baker was heading toward Casey, who watched his approach with terror-filled eyes.

Well, shit!

This was going to go down very badly.

Matt stepped away from the trunk just as Baker reached her. She backed away from him and came up against the wall. Baker took her by the arms and jerked her to his chest, sliding one hand down her back to cup her ass. Casey’s wide, panicked eyes sought Matt’s across the distance.

“Hold it, Rock,” Brockman snarled. “You need to prepare the charges now and we need to move out.” He cradled his weapon across his arm so it pointed at Matt, a finger on the trigger. Distrust shone in his eyes.

Matt gritted his teeth, needing to get control of the situation. It’d been less than five minutes since Baker arrived. Casey didn’t have another five minutes to wait for his team to get there. That son of a bitch had his hands on her. Fury tore through him. He needed to stall for time, and keep Baker from taking Casey out of the room.
