CHAPTER 4

Both men showered and dressed in fresh clothes without saying a word to each other. Derek wished talking to Lark was as easy as fucking him. He wished he could just tell Lark how he felt by pounding him into the mattress, then turning him over and worshiping Lark's body. He'd start at Lark's feet and work his way up, until he poured all his need, longing, and love into Lark's mouth. He knew no other way to express the tangle of emotions he felt for his former partner. Derek shivered as Lark walked out of the bathroom dressed in tight black pants and a black tank, looking every inch the weapons-dealing badass he was supposed to be.

He looked Derek up and down and frowned. "You look way too good for a prisoner."

"You planning to rough me up?"

Lark shook his head. "Nah. Not now."

"Thanks for that at least."

Lark reached into the same cabinet that held the extra uniforms and pulled out a coiled strip of leather. Derek eyed it with suspicion. "What's that?"

"A leash."

"No." Derek took a step back. "Hell no."

Lark scowled. "We're playing this my way." "That's what you said on Lithusia."

The color drained from Lark's face. Derek was immediately sorry. Lark squeezed his eyes shut for a few seconds. When he opened them they were cold and emotionless. "If my men get suspicious, we're dead. Is your pride more important to you than getting the fuck off this planet?"

Derek sighed. "Fine. I'll be your slave boy for now, but I'll get you back later."

Lark grinned. "I sure hope so." Derek started to comment, but Lark's expression turned serious. "Don't make eye contact with anyone. Don't speak unless I give you permission even if someone else speaks to you. Don't give me a reason to hurt you."

Derek took a long slow breath. "I'll try."

Lark sighed. "You've never been able to keep your mouth shut."

Derek frowned. "True."

But it wasn't true, not really. Derek hadn't said a word when the assholes at the IIB told him Lark had betrayed him, that he'd disappeared, that he'd been a double agent. Deep inside, under the layers of pain, both physical and emotional, Derek had known their story couldn't be true. But he needed someone to blame for the hell he'd lived through, so he accepted their story and focused all his rage on Lark. He vowed to kill him if he ever saw him again. When he thought about what Lark must have gone through trying to find help for him, Derek got so dizzy he had to grip the door frame for support as he followed Lark out of his quarters.

Lark turned back. Derek saw concern in his friend's eyes, but they were surely being watched now, so all Lark said was, "Stand up straight unless you'd rather crawl."

Derek bit back his natural response and forced out a, "Yes, sir."

Lark turned away then, holding the end of the leash, and Derek followed him, not letting his weakness show again.

* * * * Lark watched Derek's hands fly across the keyboard.
