"Are you okay?" I ask Briar for maybe the twelfth time today. Dante being taken in for questioning isn't sitting well with her… especially since they tackled him on campus and dragged him away. The fact that her and Penn were with him at the time despite us telling Briar to stay the fuck away… yeah, it's been a bad few days.

"They released him, said there wasn't enough evidence. I just don't understand why these detectives go in so hard. You know for a fact that if it was you or Travis being arrested it wouldn't happen that way." She lets out a sigh of frustration and I nod, because she's not wrong.

"I know. One day things will change, but right now, I'm more worried about you."

"I just need to burn off this anxious energy… but I do not run, and I can't think of anything else to do."

I smirk at her as Sawyer walks down the stairs. His gaze bounces from hers to mine before he grins and rubs his hands together. "Well, I appear to have arrived just in time to save the day."

A laugh rips through my chest, because of course he's going to save her day.

"Save the day?" Briar asks, looking up at him through her lashes from where she's sulking on the stool at the counter.

"Well, you look pissed off, and my dearest brother looks a little lost… which means, obviously, I'm going to save the day. What's on your mind, Sunshine?"

"She wants to burn off some energy," I say out loud, while telling him the rest with a look, and his grin widens.

"Oh, I can definitely help you with that, Sunshine," he says to her, wagging his brows. "We don't even have to let my twinny twin twin in on it."

"And what do you have in mind?" she asks, a smile playing on her lips, because she knows him as well as I do. And if he thinks he's leaving me out of this fun, well, he has another thing coming.

"Well, the construction in the backyard is finally finished… which means the hot tub is available. And I might have an idea about how to really get you relaxed."

I quirk a brow at him. I didn't realize the construction was finished. But then, I haven't really been paying attention. It's been his thing and I don't even really know what he had built out there, just that he made it happen really fucking quickly.

"Do I need a suit?" she asks playfully, and I laugh.

"Oh I doubt that very much," I answer her, knowingly.

"Last one out there doesn't get an orgasm," Sawyer shouts and hauls ass toward the back door while Briar blinks at me in shock.

"Snooze, you lose, Pretty Girl," I say with a wink before running out after Sawyer, hearing her laugh behind me as her footsteps thud beside mine.

I wait at the door and scoop her up over my shoulder before running across the yard, her laughter like food for my soul.

Sawyer waits for us by the door to the new building, shaking his head at me.
