Chapter 4

“Good for you.” Ty stroked Lillah’s cheek when they got back to their seats.

“What a dick.” Carson handed her a glass of wine, planting a kiss on her forehead.

Lillah was about to defend Richard when she caught herself. Why was she still automatically ready to stand up for Richard, even now? It was a habit she had gotten into when they were married, always trying to explain away his behavior when her friends commented on it. Which they did a lot, now that she thought about it.

No more.

After taking a slow sip, she twisted the glass between her fingers. “That’s him, alright.”

Lillah hadn’t talked about her ex-husband to either Ty or Carson, and she sure as hell didn’t want to waste another moment of her vacation doing it now.

“To us.” She raised her drink, already relaxing as their three glasses clicked together.

“And to leaving the past in the past,” Ty added.

They sat looking out into the night sky until Carson broke the peaceful silence.

“You know, we’ve got an open bar back in our room. It’s our last chance to take advantage of it.” Tracing his fingers over Lillah’s leg, it was clear he wasn’t very interested in drinking.

Lillah set her glass down on the table. “Let’s go.”
