TAMED BY THE SIREN

He watched her swim with heaviness in his chest. How could he miss her already at what she’d confessed earlier?

Red planned on leaving. Where the hell was she going? Was she running back to that spineless, gold-digging bastard, Hunter?

Axel cradled her heart in his palm. No, her leaving had nothing to do with Hunter and everything to do with him.

“Where is it you’re going, Red?” he called out to her.

She looked at him with a puzzled expression on her face. He opened his mouth to ask his question again. She shook her head and swam toward him.

“What did you say?”

“Where are you headed, and when will you return?”

“None of your business.”

She climbed out of the hot spring. He pocketed her heart, and extended his hands to her, afraid she’d scrape her knees on the rocks. She grasped his hands, and he tugged. Her wet, naked body collided into him.

“Axel?” She glanced up. Drops of water clung to her lashes.

“What is it, Sunshine?”

“I want to sing to you. Will you let me?”

He tipped his head to the water behind her. “I won’t drown?”

She swatted his chest. “We’re on land.” She stood on her toes and whispered in his ear. “I want to sing for you.”

Axel sucked in a breath at what she was asking. Red wanted him to make love to her. Did her forwardness have something to do with her leaving?

Before he could question her, she led him to moss-covered ground canopied by a large weeping willow tree.

“No one will see us,” she said, her eyes gleaming.

All rational thought left, replaced by a deep need to claim and mark Red.

In the cool morning air, away from the warmth of the hot spring, she shivered. Axel tugged the handkerchief from his back pants pocket, dried the metal door and interior of her heart’s vault then gently returned her heart to her. He covered her nakedness with the shirt off his back, a shirt too big for her, but would keep her warm with the leftover heat from his body. And damn was he hot for her.

“Thank you for my heart and the shirt.” Crimson spots dotted her cheeks.

“It was nothing.”

“Wrong.” Her palm settled on his face. “You gave me the chance to swim again. That meant a lot, Axel. Let me give you something in return.”

A tit for tat. Was this what “I want to sing for you” meant, a payback? “You’re not a whore, Red.”

She tsked. “Such language.”

The hair on the back of his neck stood on end. No woman had ever scolded Axel, the Alpha wolf, even in a teasing tone as Red had done.

Not realizing how close she’d come to being eaten alive, Red curved her arms around his waist. “Are you paying me in coins?” Her eyes sparkled.

“No.”

“Are you forcing me to lay with you?” She tilted her head to the side with a wide smile on her face.

“Negatory.”

“Can you walk away?”

His gaze dropped to the curve of her mouth. “Yes.” Axel longed to devour those lips and have moans of pleasure slip from deep within her.
