Please – Part Two

It was Friday afternoon, a couple of weeks after Macy’s funeral, and Brett had popped back to his flat. He’d been staying at Maria’s but now he wanted to go back to his flat to see how it felt.

In his mind he’d already decided to give his flat up. He couldn’t live there anymore knowing the times he’d shared there with Macy, but he knew that he would have to face it sooner or later. There was an eerie silence as he placed the key in the door. A few letters slipped under the door as he pushed it open. He walked down the hall and looked into the little box room that he’d made into a bedroom for Macy. It was too much. He let out a groan as the tears filled his eyes as he placed his hands over his face. He quickly walked back to the front door and picked up the mail that was on the floor. He then went into the living room. He sat on the edge of the settee and began to reluctantly open his mail. As he was doing this he noticed music coming from the downstairs flat. Terry Shepard’s mother had moved off the estate into a bungalow and the music was back. Once again it was loud, very loud, that same old repetitive pumping bass-line that used to drive him around the bend, and once again Brett was going to pay the lad downstairs a visit.

Brett gallantly walked into the kitchen and rummaged around in the kitchen drawers. The claw-hammer he was looking for was soon in his hand. He tucked it down the back of his trousers by the handle leaving the head of it sticking out of the back of his jeans. He carefully made sure the jacket covered it and then made his way out of the front door almost in a charge. He jogged down the concrete staircases in malicious glee. He got to the door and gave it a knock. After a few seconds the door opened to reveal the same lad that Brett had encountered before. The lad looked at Brett with a sigh and a slight roll of his eyes. He then folded his arms. Brett’s face tightened and he looked straight into the lad’s eyes.

“If you don’t shut that fuckin’ row up I’m gonna come in there and smash that fuckin’ stereo to bits!” said Brett nodding his head with a slight smile looking totally sure of himself.

The lad looked surprised and then frowned.

“Who the fuck do you think you are?” said the lad, looking dumbfounded.

This was what Brett was waiting for. Brett smiled before smashing his forehead straight into the lad’s nose. It was a flush shot almost making the sound of two snooker balls hitting one another. The lad fell back and was flat out on the floor. Brett walked in the doorway where the lad lay and kicked him in his ribcage repeatedly. The sound of the air being hoofed out of his body could be heard with every boot.
