They discovered Maneet in the living room watching TV. There was an empty plate on the coffee table which looked as if it had contained curry and rice.

“Oh hi!” said Maneet turning around. “How’s everything going?”

“I think we’ve made some headway,” Bernadette told her. “We’ve left them to talk.”

“Oh good, well, I’ve been watching TV as you can see, and I heated up a bit of the leftover curry, it was yummy.”

“For breakfast?” Bernadette made a face.

“Oh yes, it was delicious.”

“We’re going to make some breakfast now, bacon, eggs, and so on, would you like some?” Eve asked her.

“I wouldn’t say no.” Maneet laughed. “That was only a snack I had.”

“Fine, we’ll pop into the kitchen.”

“I’ll join you.” Maneet turned off the TV and picked up her plate.

When they arrived in the kitchen, Constantina was there tidying up and laying the table.

“Constantina,” said Bernadette, “we’re going to make breakfast, you can go and have a rest.”

“But is my job!” Constantina protested.

“No, you can go have some time off, go on. Eve is going to make breakfast. You can leave it to us.”

“But…”

“Constantina, we love you but let us do the breakfast, just this once, OK?” Eve said smiling sweetly whilst ushering her out.

“OK, OK! I go, I go,” Constantina grumbled but she looked secretly pleased. “Is my princess…?” she asked anxiously at the door.

“Everything will be fine, darling,” Eve told her. “Don’t worry.”

“Yes, well sometimes there is too much, this, you know.” Constantina smacked her hand into her palm lightly.

“We know and there won’t be for a while, we’re sorting it out. Now go on, go and have a rest.”

“OK, I go… I go…” Constantina left the room in dramatic style.

“What did she mean by too much?” Maneet asked curiously smacking one hand into the other.

Eve started to bustle around getting eggs from the fridge and finding the other ingredients she wanted.

“After what you’ve seen and heard, I guess you deserve to know,” said Bernadette. She put the kettle on and then sat down at the table with Maneet while Eve began to put a pan on to make bacon.

“Ooh, sounds intriguing.”

“Believe me, that is not the word I’d use…” Bernadette laughed and began to relate the potted history of D’Arcy and Imogen’s relationship, how they had met, whilst judiciously leaving a few things out. However, Imogen’s predilection for spanking had to be mentioned. As Bernadette suspected, Maneet did not bat an eye.

“Wow,” she said. “It’s quite a story. I didn’t suspect Imogen was quite that naughty.”

“This is just between us, right,” Bernadette said anxiously.

“Of course, after all, you know a very big secret of mine.”

“We’re even then, I suppose.”

“Yes, goodness, I never expected quite such an entertaining weekend.” Maneet laughed.

“It wasn’t our intention to give you one, to be honest, but this has been brewing for a while,” said Bernadette with a shrug.

“It seems as though you’ve sorted it.”

“She’s quite the mediator,” Eve added looking at her wife with admiration. “I’ve seen a new side to her.”

“I have my moments.
