A Race Against Time

Yonit finished her day at the university sooner than usual. One of the lecturers was ill and could not come. She came back to her apartment and saw that she had a note in her mailbox – a notification on receiving an item via registered mail.

She was surprised, as she did not expect this. She then got up to her apartment, organized herself quickly, and went to the nearby postal office.

When she came in, she gave the note and received a small cardboard package in return. She examined it and saw that it was from Italy. Her curiosity grew, and she decided to examine the contents back at her apartment.

When she came back home, she placed the package on the kitchen table and opened it carefully. Inside was a hastily-written note, bearing her brother’s handwriting. She read the note carefully. She then put it aside and reached into the package again and pulled out the fabric-wrapped scroll. She removed the cover, opened the scroll carefully and examined it. She then returned it into its wrapping and tore the note to bits. She then placed the wrapped scroll back in the box and hid it under the bed. Afterward, she went grocery-shopping for lunch. When she returned and placed all groceries in the fridge, she immediately called Kaduri.

Kaduri was in the middle of a lecture as he felt his mobile phone vibrating in his pocket. He paused for a moment to examine who was calling, and then hung up and carried on with his lecture.

When he was finished, he went to his office, closed the door behind him, and called Yonit back. “I’m sorry, I was in the middle of a lecture. What can I do for you?”

“I have something important for you, that may help find some answers to the riddle on that coin I gave you”, she said.

Kaduri’s eyes sparkled and his curiosity grew. “Please tell, what is it?”

“I can’t, it’s a secret. We’ll have to meet somewhere, so I could pass it to you in person”.

“I see”, Kaduri replied and thought for a moment. “We could meet in my office at six o’clock in the evening, if you can, of course. I should be finished with my work by then”.

“Alright, see you later, then”, Yonit said and hung up, leaving Kaduri pondering on the mysteries of the coin’s unsolved riddle.
