"Sorry officer,” Hank laughed, prodding Preston’s shoulder. “I did tell him to slow down, but you know what these young bucks are like when they get their hands on a car like this. Gotta tell ya, he damn near scared the living daylights out of me.”

Preston stared at him incredulously, but Hank refused to catch his eye.

"Would you like me to book him, Sir?" the policeman asked, reaching in to his back pocket.

Preston held his tongue and just stared fixedly at Hank. Protesting that Hank had told him to do it was a feeble defence, and unlikely to be believed, but he was damn sure he was going to at least mention it if Hank asked for him to be arrested.
