Four

Jake felt the weight of the gun pushing hard into his balls.

It made his stomach churn and he felt like he was going to throw up.

Time to think quick.

Time to take a risk.

He didn’t have all the facts, and he wasn’t used to acting without them. But now he had to trust his gut as this goon offered to castrate him with a bullet.

“Okay, okay, okay,” Jake blurted, relieved to feel the gun receding from between his legs.

The goon obviously recognised the tone of defeat.

Jake didn’t know what he wanted, didn’t know what it looked like, what size it even was. This was the gamble.

With a deep breath, he threw the dice down the table and hoped to hell they landed right.

“It’s in my sock,” he said.

The goon cocked his head, a mix of bemusement and appreciation on his face.

“Ballsy,” the goon said, and pushed the gun back into the holster under his arm. And then he nodded his head, like he was praising a toddler.

Jake resisted a smile, knowing he had gambled well. Whatever it was this asshole wanted, it was obviously feasible that it could be in his sock.

“I’d get it myself,” Jake said, a wry smile on one corner of his mouth.

“Mind if I?”

The goon leaned forward on his chair, letting out a deep, guttural moan at the stretching that was being asked of his overweight body. Jake felt the goon’s fat fingers fumbling around his left ankle.

“The other one,” he said.

Another grunt, and the goon shifted his weight to search the right sock. There was nothing to find of course, and Jake knew the subterfuge was only going to be temporary. But it might just buy him enough time.

“It’s trapped under the rope,” he said.

The goon sat up, and stared back at him with a look of annoyance on his face. Sweat was gathering on his brow now.

Jake shrugged beneath his restraints.

“Fuck’s sake,” the goon grunted, then leaned down, his fat fingers attempting to loosen the ropes around Jake’s ankles.

Jake was pleased to feel the tension release on both his legs; clearly he was tied up with one length of rope.

The goon’s fingers wrapped around his right ankle.

“Round the back,” Jake said.

The goon looked up, his eyes popping out of their sockets, and bright red from the exertion. His chin was just above Jake’s knee.

Perfect.

Jake thrust his leg up, feeling the bone in his knee hit the goon’s trachea. The noise it made was sickening, and the weight of the man toppled his chair to one side, and he landed with a hefty thud, bone against floor as he smacked his head.

The rope was loose enough now to free his feet completely, and with some wriggling and struggling, he managed to liberate his hands too. He examined the collapsed form of the goon for a moment, making sure he was really unconscious, then he lifted the rope from around his chest and tossed it to the floor.

He was halfway to the door when he realised the other asshole was just on the other side.
