ââ¦Wow, Iâve gone pretty far in,â I muttered to myself. Iâd split with Igarashi and the others and started on my way to meet up with Theresia but couldnât seem to find her. Seraphina I could understand, but surprisingly not even Madoka had seemed tired, even though they had both gone all the way to the spring and back. I also felt it was odd how little the exercise was getting to me. Maybe it was difficult to feel tired unless I lost vitality?
The trickle winding through the forest grew deep enough to call a proper stream, which I thought might mean I was getting closer to the spring. At one point the path cut off, so I started making my own way through the trees. Just thenâ
Splash!
âI heard what sounded like water up ahead. I carefully pushed aside the leafy branches blocking my way and approached the source of the noise. I came upon a clearing where I found a crystalline spring about the size of a swimming pool. Thatâs when I saw Theresiaâs chameleon boots next to the spring.
ââTheresia?!â
Thereâs no way she took those off herself. Something must have happened, I thought, and I couldnât restrain myself from calling out for her. In an instant, a wave began to ripple over the springâI heard a loud splash, and something came flying out from the water.
ââ¦â¦â
ââ¦Thereâ¦sia?â
No doubt about it, the person standing in front of me was Theresia all right. I gathered sheâd taken off her boots so she could swim in the spring. Water drip-dropped from the wet black hair peeking out from underneath her lizard hood. Iâd seen her in her swimsuit in the bath, but she looked totally different now; the scenic wooded spring gave her a certain mystique.
ââ¦!â
Theresia shook herself from side to side, though of course that wasnât enough to get all the water off. Some of it landed on me, but I didnât mind too much. It felt relatively warmâa perfect temperature for swimming.
ââ¦â¦â
âO-oh, itâs okay if I get a little wet⦠Theresia, you sure you donât want to dry off?â I asked and handed her the towel Iâd brought just in case I decided to go for a swim. She tucked the towel under her hood and patted her hair dry a bit but didnât seem to care for much more and handed it back to me.
ââ¦â¦â
âWh-whatâs wrong? It looks like youâre hesitating to suggest somethingâ¦â
We went everywhere together, so a little time apart every once in a while could do us some good⦠At least, thatâs what Iâd thought, and it looked like sheâd read my mind.
âThe waterâs so clear⦠I definitely get why youâd want to take a dip.â
ââ¦â¦â
Theresia looked back at the water, slowly lifted her right hand up, and pointed toward the deeper part of the spring. As clear as the water was, we still couldnât see all the way to the bottom.
âDid you find something in there?â
She nodded, then started to head back in but stopped herself, turned around, and reached her right hand out to me.
