Penelope greeted Sorana and Aurek warmly at her shop.

“I didn’t think you’d come so soon,” the hooded woman smiled. Her perfumed scent was extra potent, but Sorana chose not to dwell on it.

“We’re ready to help you with whatever you need. We’ve done all sorts of work back where we’re from,” said Sorana.

“And we’re super at it!” added Aurek.

“I don’t doubt it. I’ll make good use of you,” Penelope replied happily.

Penelope took out a scroll and jotted down some words with ink and quill. “I want you to find the medicines on this list and deliver them to the appropriate people.”

The siblings searched around the shop while Penelope began preparing her draughts. Sorana was keen to learn her alchemy techniques.

“Why are there so many potions for animals?” Aurek asked.

“I am a veterinarian, and my husband is a physician. That’s why we have a variety of draughts,” Penelope answered.

Speckles of dust rose into the air as Sorana uncovered the shelf, causing her to cough momentarily. Many of the bottles were obscured by a large cloth surrounded by cobwebs.

“Excuse the poor conditions of my shop. I’ve been away for a long time, and my husband didn’t take care of the shop while I was gone. He was always so lazy.”

“Where is he now?” asked Sorana, curious to meet him.

“He’s visiting family outside of Salaria. He’s not from this city, you see. And neither am I, hence why we had to go away at different times. Ah, you’ve reminded me to tidy the basement. It’ll be extremely filthy so I warn you not to go down there. I wouldn’t want you feeling ill from the dirt and dust.”

When the siblings collected the medicines, Sorana noticed a curious substance on the list.

“Penelope, this remedy says belladonna. I don’t want to presume anything, but isn’t that rather poisonous? I’m not a physician so please don’t take it the wrong way…”

“You’re rather knowledgeable. Yes, belladonna is poisonous after certain amounts. Still, for this patient, it’s the correct dose when paired with spearmint and hedgehog fat. I can teach you in greater detail when you return from your deliveries.”

Sorana nodded eagerly and was more than satisfied with Penelope’s answer. She gathered the remaining remedies while Penelope dusted off Aurek’s back before sending them off.

“You'll be making deliveries to important patients of mine. Make sure they receive them,” she said as the siblings set off.

Aurek carried the medicine while Sorana cautiously led the way, keeping to herself to focus on her navigation.

“Are we going to live with Penelope?” Aurek asked.

“Mirka wants us to visit Father, but we shouldn’t rush it.”

“I hope we see him soon. It’ll be fun!”

It pained Sorana to lie to her brother, especially when he accepted her words so readily.

Eventually, they arrived at the first of the three destinations. An old man with a walking stick answered the door.

"My, my. The Dryad’s Draughts still remember me. Thank you very much. You have no idea how helpful this will be for my aching back,” the old man said with a smile.
