“Fuck.”

I throw the highball glass in my hand against the wall of my office. Glass shatters and rains down to the tiled floor.

Waiting for his answer is the worst. Coming home and Jara not being here is making me rage at nothing and everything.

I need something to keep my mind busy, but nothing holds my attention for long.

What’s happening to my mate right now? Are they hurting her?

I swear to the gods if there is one mark on her skin I will not be able to hold back. I will destroy Greyson.

I flop into the chair behind my desk ignoring the mess on the floor and open my laptop to a new email from Bill.

Reading the email has me clenching my fist and grinding my teeth. The government is throwing out his injunction and is requesting all documentation from the businesses I own.

I just can’t handle one more thing, and I won’t be able to help Callahan and the other packs to keep the humans away from their territories if I am under investigation.

It will just throw up even more red flags.

A knock on the door has me tensing but I stand and stomp to it and throw it open to a wide eyed Patrick.

“How are you, Alpha?” he asks slowly, as if scared I’m about to rip his head off for asking a simple question.

I grunt in response and wave him in before shutting the door behind him.

Patrick takes the seat in front of my desk. “I’m just fucking great.”

“Any word on getting our alpha female back?”

The edge in his tone tells me just how much he wants Jara back.

For me it’s not a want. It’s a need.

I need to see that she’s okay. I need her in my space.

In my life and my wolf? He’s in a fucking rage, clawing and scratching at my rib cage, howling to break free and hunt.

I’m truly concerned about shifting. If I lose control there’s no telling what he will do or if I will ever be able to rein him in.

“No, he is charging her and her family with treason against his pack.” I scrub a hand over my face and go sit down in the chair behind my desk.

“Is there anything I can do?” He asks gripping the arms of his chair so hard his knuckles are turning white.

“We need to be prepared for war,” I grumble.

It’s looking even more like that is the way this is going to end. This is seriously bad timing with everything going on, but I can’t back down.

I need to see my mate. I need to ask her myself what the actual fuck she was doing.

“What do you need me to do?” he asks without hesitation.

“Gather the others. We need to strategize the first steps in this war and then we may have to have a pack meeting. I hope we don’t have to go to war, but Greyson is being unreasonable.”

“He has scouts out watching the border,” Patrick grumbles. “I smelled a wolf close to our border last night.
