Chapter 12

December 25th

“That was fun, but I’m glad to be home. It’s freezing,” I said as I wrestled off the coat in the warmth of his townhouse. It wasn’t until I looked over and saw him cocking his head to the side that I realized what I had said. “I-I meant your home.”

“It’s your home as well, at least for the week.”

“True. While we’re on the topic—what the hell am I going to wear for the next week? I only brought an overnight bag.”

“It’s taken care of.”

“What a vague, unsatisfying answer,” I said dryly, rolling my eyes when he laughed. “Seriously, though. What’s going on?”

“Go into the living room. I’ll meet you there in a moment.”

“Okay,” I said slowly, shucking my filthy boots and lining them against the wall next to his. “But if you’re not in there in five minutes—I’m coming after you.”

“I’ll hold you to that,” Logan said with a light laugh.

He disappeared up the stairs and I made my way into the living room, freezing in the doorway when my eyes landed on the tree and... well, everything else.

It definitely wasn’t the same as when we left the house two hours ago.

“What the hell?”

I stepped further into the room, torn between frowning and smiling at the numerous bags that were now sitting around the tree. The brief phone call he received as we wandered around the park suddenly made sense.

It wasn’t just the amount of presents that had changed, though. There was also a totally new addition to the room not far from the electric fireplace. Upon closer inspection, I realized it was the mattress from one of the guest bedrooms.

Logan entered the room carrying a full load of blankets—the ones from his bed—and he dropped them unceremoniously on the mattress. I was looking at him quizzically when he straightened his spine and made a vague gesture toward the television mounted on the nearby wall.

“If we’re going to have a Christmas movie marathon, I want to do it in comfort. That couch is more for show than anything else.”

I had learned that on my first day cleaning for him when I plopped down to relax for a few minutes and winced at the hardness of the cushions. I smiled at his thoughtfulness, but still shook my head in disbelief.

“How did you manage to do this?”

“I... I was hoping to find the courage sometime today to ask you to stay for the week. I hired someone to do this days ago and texted them the go-ahead just before we left this morning.”

He looked embarrassed about the trouble he’d gone through, so I quickly made my way over to him and wrapped my arms around his neck.

“Thank you so much. Last night was... It meant a lot to me. It was magical. And this is just...” I couldn’t even find the words to describe how happy he had made me. “It’s amazing. Thank you.”

“Shall we set up the bed?”

“Let’s. I’ll put the sheets on—you get the pillows.”

I got the fitted sheet on by the time he returned with another armful of pillows and a thick comforter.
