KNOCK, KNOCK, KNOCK

Taping on the side of the window outside was a women dressed in a dark gray suit. Gesturing with her hands she points to the door, and with that Jasper, for a brief moment, closes his eyes in despair.

Chapter 11 – Surprise~

“Sorry, I have to take this,” says Jasper as he opens the door to talk to the person in the suit. After a few words spoken, Jasper turns to the rest of the group. “Sorry, I will have to take my leave here,” he says with a forced smile and leaves.

“Leaving so soon?” Asks Alex. “That’s a shame. I was hoping to test your resolve over Noah’s cooking,” he says gesturing towards the deceitfully good-looking food on the table.

“I believe I already proved my merit not long ago when we were at your apartment,” says Jasper with a small genuine grin. “Now, if you will excuse me.”

With Jasper now gone, the mood of the room died down a little until Noah said, “wait, you don’t like my cooking?”

“N-no, that’s not what I meant!” Says Alex as he scrambled to get himself an extra heaping helping of toxic food. “I was just referring to how we would compete to see who can eat the most together,” he says as he looks down at the plate of doom before him. To the untrained eye it looked like a smorgasbord of taste treats, but to those who knew eating it was nothing short of courting death himself. It was as if the grim reaper himself was placing his hand on Alex’s shoulder, letting him know his time was about to come.

“What are you waiting for,” says Mary. “Eat up.”

Man, Mary can be ruthless at times, thought both Jung and Elizabeth at the same time.

Alex reaches to take a bight, but Jason stops him by placing his hand on his shoulder, without saying any words it was as if he was saying, “if you are going to die today, I will die with you.” And with that he too makes himself a plate of despair.

They share one last look at each other, the same way how two brothers would look at each other right before they are shipped off to war, and with that they both take a bight of the food.

“Mmmmm, so good,” says Alex as a tear runs down his eye.

“I know right!” replies Noah, unaware the tear is out of despair, not thankfulness as the grim reaper tightens his grip on Alex’s shoulder.
