Chapter 10

Adam

I can barely sleep with Cat lying so warm and beautiful in my arms. I've barely been able to abide by my own rules tonight because she so fucking sexy. All of this is compounded by the fact I'm already becoming attached to her. I tell myself that the eleven-year age difference is what bothers me about this situation, but it's really my fear of a repeat of what happened with Stefania, just like Gordy said. But I can do this. It's only our first night together, after all. I should just let it feel good, and not worry too much about the future.

Except when she snuggles deeper into my side and nuzzles my neck, it just makes me want to be inside her, fucking her, making us both wait to come until we're almost blind with need. I realize, without a doubt, that I want to own her. But in the one way I could never have Stef, which was holding her heart--and her trust--in my hands. At least Catrina seems to care enough about herself never to get caught up in a situation without a safe word again. And I'm suddenly hoping that won't happen because she'll be with me.

By the early hours of the morning, I'm aching with wanting to slip inside her. So, to avoid temptation, I get out of bed, take a stark, cold shower, and order a newspaper and breakfast. I close the door to the bedroom of our suite, so Cat isn't disturbed and when the breakfast cart arrives, I leave everything under the domes on the plates to keep it warm and fresh. I dive into the newspaper, and it isn't long before Cat emerges with rumpled hair and a huge smile on her face. She's bundled herself in the other thick white terry cloth robe that came with the room.

"Ooo, is there breakfast? Have you eaten yet?" She asks me this as she makes her way over to the cart and starts lifting the stainless-steel domes off of the plates.

"Yes, and not yet," I chuckle. "By all means, help yourself."

"Oh!" Cat whips around with a guilty look on her face, and a piece of bacon raised to her lips. "Sorry, was I not supposed to..."

"I'm teasing you, honey. Of course, you can." Another smile and a crunch of the bacon is all she gives me for a response. "But wheel that over here, please, so we can both dive in."

It gets quiet as we pour our juice and butter our toast, so I pick up the remote to the sound system and turn on some light jazz. She glances at me a couple of times, but I can tell she's waiting for me to break the ice.

"How are you feeling this morning, Cat? In general, and about your experience last night?" I ask between bites of my scrambled eggs.

"Honestly? Pretty fucking amazing," she says, grinning.

I can't help but reach across the table and swipe at the jam in the corner of her mouth with my thumb and I lick it off with the tip of my tongue.
