Chapter Seven

Sampson’s first night of work had been … interesting.

The better part of the evening had been spent following Mal around, finding out where everything was kept and how things worked. The club had everything anyone could possibly think to want and more besides.

It was as amazing as it was intimidating and he kept reminding himself that he was an employee here now, he had no reason to be intimidated. Except perhaps by Mal, whose admonition to stop slouching had become a mantra.

Mal was extremely intimidating without even opening his mouth. The man had a presence that everyone could feel – he’d watched as every time they came into a room, everyone immediately looked to Mal and the respect and awe there was palpable.

By the end of the evening spent with Mal, he’d found himself standing just a little taller, with a little more pride – he never once felt too tall or overbearing with Mal.

He’d spent the last couple of hours of his shift teaching a man how to use a cat ‘o nine tails to most effective use.

Most beginners made the same mistake and whipped too hard, bloodying the skin immediately which shortened the session dramatically. The trick was to have a delicate touch, to make the tails an extension of your hand, like nine fingers. Of course, if you touched the skin too lightly, it was more of a caress than a blow.

It took time and practice and a willingness to try it until you got it right to become good at the tails, let alone an expert at them. The top he’d been working with was patient though, as were the half dozen subs in training they’d gone through.

The top, who’d looked skeptical when Mal had first introduced them, booked an appointment for next week and gave him a very large gratuity. Which he’d handed over to Mal, believing it to be the club’s fee.

He’d been floored when Mal had tossed the credchip back to him and informed him that the staff were entitled to keep any tips they got, but not to expect them as they were not in any way expected of the guests.

He made his way up to Alain’s rooms, rubbing his right arm. It had been a rather long work out. He only just kept himself from knocking on the door. This was his home now, too.

Who would have believed that he would find himself in the most luxurious suites in one of the most exclusive clubs in New Angeles? Oh, he’d heard the whispers and the rumors. Only five people had suites on this floor and there had been many who’d wondered how an employee came to have his palmprint open one of them.

He let himself in, calling Alain’s name softly. He didn’t want to wake his new lover, but he longed to touch the beautiful, soft skin again, to look into those warm eyes that made him feel so good.

“Alain?”

“In the bathroom, love.” There was a soft chuckle, then a splash.
