I can feel my body subconsciously shaking; trying to wake myself up. But, I am in the midst of an awful dream. It is so real that I can almost feel the cool mist on my skin, mixing with my sweat. A sense of panic and dread fill my entire being. I can hear it; the train. The tracks rumble beneath us as it comes closer. In that moment, I realize where I am and what is going on. I look around and try to take in my surroundings. We’re inside a car, I am in the front seat. I must be looking through Sadie’s eyes right now; I wonder if she knows she having a flashback, think to myself. All around me, I hear the screams of my friends. They are scared and Jo Anne is crying. “We have to get out of here!” Frankie says from the driver’s seat. “They won’t let us, you heard them!” Johnny says from behind him. “I don’t care, we will die if we stay here!” Frankie screeches. He opens the car door and begins to run, everyone else following suit. A flash of black happens, and then I am suddenly standing outside, watching the train come closer. I hear yelling, then another flash of black. Then I can hear, but I cant see, and all I hear are my friends hollering “Sadie, Sadie! No!” I feel a jolt and wake up suddenly, hollering Sadie’s name. I look around, taking in the details of my room. My mind becomes more aware and I am relieved to be awake. I’m drenched in sweat and my stomach is in a hard knot. “Audrey, what’s wrong?!” Sadie calls out to me from my doorway. This room is more than well protected, and she cannot come in. I look at her with a new sense of depth. I’m happy, relieved, yet still feel scared. I jump out of bed and run to the doorway. As soon as I’m out in the hall, I grab for Sadie, almost forgetting that she is a spirit. Surprisingly, I am able to touch her. I wrap her in my arms and bury my face into her shoulder, where I sob relentlessly. She is quick to return the embrace, rocking me from side to side and stroking my hair in an attempt to calm me. My skin tingles under her touch; the side affect of coming into physical contact with a spirit. “What happened, Audrey? Calm down and tell me what happened…” she says coolly. “I saw the car, and the train, and Frankie and Johnny were yelling and everyone got out and then…and then your name…and then I woke…I don’t know what’s going on!” I stumble over my words. She stops moving and goes rigid. After a long moment of her being absolutely still, the realization that she was not breathing, and would not breath, causes me to jerk backwards out of her arms. It was a strange reaction for me; I knew that dead people wouldn’t breathe.
