“Vin, can I ask you something?” We were seated at a far back table with Digger when

Skid approached me. The kid was Seventeen, his mother was one of the dancers. When she’d told me what had happened to him, I decided to get him out of Juvi and help the kid out. Ever since then, he been stuck to me like glue. He was a bit young to be a Prospect. But Reaper made an exception, in order to offer him protection. He was one of us now, and he was enthusiastic about being a part of something. Even the guys thought it was...cute.

“What is it, kid? Don’t you have video games you should be playing?”

“I was just wondering when you know, I could learn to ride?”

I turned to him, eyeing him. “You want to learn to ride?”

“Yeah well, I want a bike.”

“And your mother’s okay with that?”

He stared down at the floor and we all smiled at each other. “I thought so.”

I patted him on the shoulder. “Look kid, I’ll teach you to ride.”

“You will,” his eyes looked up at me, full of hope. Something stirred inside of me, the kid reminded me of who I was and all the possibilities that lay before me as a kid. “Before I do that I need you to finish school.”

“But I graduate in six months!”

“Then in six months we’ll talk.”

“Come on, Vin!”

“You heard me.”

I ended the conversation just as Crow came up to us. We’ve got company. We could easily spot the piggies as they walked in, the one in the middle couldn’t get his eyes off my woman. My hold tightened on the glass until it cracked. Digger leaned back and smirked.

“Which one’s her husband?”

“The puny one in the middle.”

“They really think that they could just come in here as if no one would notice them?”

“Apparently.”

I sneered as I watched them. It didn’t surprise me that they’d come in tonight of all nights. It was a Friday night at the Clubhouse and it was crawling with Prospects, other members, Hang-arounds, and tons of patrons who liked to take a break on the weekend after a long day of work.

The blonde one, with the beard, was Ginger’s husband, He looked smug as he stared up at her. Ginger looked back at me, worry in her eyes.

Don’t worry, baby girl, he ain’t gettin’ near you.

We’d been expecting them. Digger had grabbed feel from several different security cameras along the highway and he’d spotted them about an hour away. It had only been a matter of time. I hadn’t informed Ginger, so she wouldn’t get scared, but either way I could see how anxious she was.

Digger turned to me. “What do you want to do?”

I lifted the glass and took the last shot of whiskey. “I feel like being entertained. Let’s see what they do.”

“You sure that’s a good idea?”

The brothers were on edge, and I nodded over at Poe who’d just sat at the bar, a few feet away from them. Reaper was in a chair at the far right corner, his girl on his lap.
