The group stays until almost eleven o’clock. It’s been an incredible evening of easy familiarity.

When they start the migration out the door, Chase turns to Chapman. “Man, I’ve got to tell you, I’ve regretted my decision not to invest in your bar. Every time I drive by you have a full parking lot.”

Chapman shrugs. “It all worked out.”

“It definitely did. I’d ask you where you got the money if my wife wouldn’t shut me up as soon as I did.”

“And I definitely would,” Shayla says with a raised eyebrow.

Chapman looks at Easton. “I suppose it was one of those charmed life things.”

Chase nods. “I guess there’s something to that. Looks like I need to hitch my wagon to yours.”

Chapman just shrugs with the cutest little smile.

“I have to talk to my partners as a courtesy, but I’m ready to invest.”

“That’s great,” Chapman says, keeping it cool. Easton nods, raising his eyebrows all calm and quiet, but I know him well enough to know he’s bursting inside.

“Great,” Chapman says. “Let me show you to the door before I say something to screw it up.”

The whole group laughs, everyone hugs their goodbyes, and Chase shakes Chapman’s hand. “I’ll be in touch.”

“Great,” Chapman says and shuts the door behind them. The four of us turn to each other and do a happy dance ending in a group hug. We step away from one another and Raven takes out her phone. “We have to tell Logan and Piper.” They appear on her screen, and Piper’s eyes are wide.

“Well?”

“It’s looking good,” Easton says.

Piper turns to Logan who is next to her, in bed, and the two of them kiss and turn back to us.

“I knew it was the right move for me to stay home,” Logan says.

“You guys are clearly busy,” Raven tells him, “so we’ll fill you in tomorrow.”

“Tell us now,” Piper says.

But Logan grabs the phone from her. “Tell us tomorrow.” He winks and says, “Good job, guys,” then ends the call.

Raven lets out an exhaustive sigh. “I think I’m finally coming down from the high.”

“She’s worked her ass off all day,” Easton says.

“You all go,” Chapman says. “Taylor will help me clean up.” He turns to me. “Won’t you?”

I give him a look, because that was a smooth move. “Sure,” I say, like I’m really going to tell him I’m not going to help him clean?

“Oh no, we’ll help,” Raven says.

Easton clears his throat. “I think they’ve got it.” He gives Raven a significant look and she seems to catch on.

“Oh, right.” She smiles. “I’ll be by tomorrow to pick up my equipment.”

We all hug one another, then Easton and Raven head out.

Chapman shuts the door behind them and turns to me with that cat-that-caught-the-canary look on his face.

I bite my lip, turn, and head toward the kitchen. He’s going to have to work for this. I really want him to take me out on a date before I give in to this desire, but I still shaved my legs and wore a matching bra and panties set.
