Chapter 8

Liam

I face Blair across the table, not sure if I should mention kissing Chastity. We’re sitting at our regular table in the bar near the office. It’s been a few days, and we still haven’t discussed the fact that we’ve divided her time between us so that she’s shadowing me one day and him the next. Neither one of us has really admitted to the other that we want our shy little intern, though she isn’t quite as shy these days. Watching her bloom over the last week, it’s clear she enjoys all the attention she’s getting from both of us. I can’t blame her, and she’s worth taking time for. I’m trying not to push her. On the rare occasion, I can’t get a woman in bed within a reasonable amount of time, like say, two hours, I move on. I’m not trying to build a relationship, and while I don’t play games, it is what it is: I am trying to seduce a virgin — the very same virgin my brother clearly wants. Finally I break the silence. “Are we here to discuss the Christmas party, or is this about something else?”

Blair looks down at his drink, not meeting my eyes for a moment. Finally, he lifts his glass and tosses it all back in one long sip before grimacing. “Madeleine seems to have it all under control.”

“Okay. So, what’s the deal, bro?”

“Chastity.”

I nodded as I repeat the word. “Chastity.”

“I kissed her.”

I nod. “I know. You were pretending to be me at the time. I kissed her a few minutes later, and she was confused for a bit. She liked me better though.”

Blair scowls at me. “That’s a lie. She said she liked us the same.”

I laugh as I sip my own scotch, rolling the amber fluid in my mouth before swallowing. “I guess you guys talked about it then?”

He nods, looking uncomfortable.

“Have you kissed her again?”

My poor brother, younger by three minutes, seems downright miserable when he shakes his head. “Nah. I haven’t been sure how to make a move. She told me that if I was going to kiss her again it had to be as me, but I haven’t acted on it. This is new territory for me.”

I let out a sigh of frustration. “Believe it or not, I understand. What’s wrong with us?”

“I’d don’t know, but I have it bad, whatever it is.”

“We’re not used to fighting over a girl. Nobody’s ever meant much, nobody’s been enough to bother fighting over. We just have to get her to make a decision. Maybe the best way to do that is with a good old-fashioned contest…?”

Blair frowns, looking uncertain. “I don’t want to turn this into a game. Chastity is different.”

I sigh again, unable to deny it. She is special. “I don’t mean a contest in a mean way. I think we just need to get her to choose. Whoever’s most successful obviously wins her, and that’s with a contest element comes in. I’m not talking about something crass, like betting money.
