"Can I tell you something?" Heather said.

"Sure, why not," Joe said, dropping his head to one side as she continued stroking the back of his neck.

"The real reason I'm here is that Harry asked me to spy on you. He said your real name is Joe Hardy and that you came to Hawaii to make trouble."

Joe put a hand up to stop her. Then he turned to face her. Heather was smiling sweetly.

"Is that so?" Joe said, playing for time.

"He said you think we're thieves or something," she said, her catlike eyes fixed on his. "It's not true, you know."

If Joe hadn't already guessed his cover was blown, he certainly knew it now.

"I think you have us mixed up with somebody else," Heather said with a shrug.

Wouldn't that be a kick in the head, Joe thought. But he didn't say anything.

"Come on," Heather said lightly. "Let me drive you back. It looks like your brother won't be showing up."

He had to admit she was right. Frank must have picked up a hot trail or something. "Okay," he said. "Let's go."

After picking up her handbag and slinging it over her shoulder, Heather led him to her car.

"So tell me more about these so-called crooks I'm supposedly tracking down," Joe asked her, hoping to uncover any detail she might let slip.

"I really don't know much about it," Heather
