Chapter 21

Luke

Just seeing Sylvie last night made the rage inside of me lessen.

Touching her made it cool.

Kissing her wrist? Made it almost disappear entirely.

Lifting her arm and planting my lips on her soft skin was a spur-of-the-moment decision, but not one I regretted. And since she seemed okay with it, I did it twice.

Wrapping her up in my arms and sitting her on my lap was spontaneous as well.

Kissing her again was a conscious choice.

It was at that exact, precise moment that I realized that girl owned me in the best possible way, and there was nothing I could do to stop the absolute nosedive I was taking for her.

The other thing I knew for certain was that Hunter Sparks had to be taught a lesson. I may not have enough information on him to take him all the way down, but he had to know that Sylvie was off limits. Talking to her, harassing her, and especially touching her wouldn’t happen again. Not on my watch. Not on the guy’s watch, either.

So the first thing I did today at school was to find Hunter. It wasn’t hard, since I had memorized his entire schedule the day after I declared Sylvie my girlfriend. I knew where he was at almost every moment of the day.

It would make me late to meet Sylvie at her locker, but I would get it done. There was nothing that would stop me from meeting her. This encounter with Hunter would be swift—short, and to the point.

And, for him, it would hurt like hell. Hopefully.

The G Hall corridor was almost empty by the time Hunter strolled down, his focus on his phone instead of in front of him.

That was his first mistake. If he had been smarter, he would have realized we would be on the prowl. One thing the Wolves excelled at was prowling—keeping a target in their sights at all times and never letting them get ahead.

I taught them that, of course.

It made sneaking up on Hunter almost too easy. I let him pass by me a few feet before I pounced.

“Sparks,” I whispered, right in his ear. By the time he jumped, fumbled his phone, caught it, and whirled around, I already had the back of his arm in a lock.

Whatever pain he inflicted on Sylvie in the past six months, he would be receiving back today. She told me about the bruises she kept a secret over text last night. Hunter’s first punishment would be a solid few pinches to the tricep.

Hunter swore when he realized it was me. “Conri, what do you want? I have no beef with you, man. Leave me alone.”

I managed to huff out a low chuckle at that. “No beef with me? You even acknowledging Sylvie’s existence means you have beef with me. I warned you, Sparks. You were told to stay away.”

Pinch one. He sucked in a deep breath and grimaced.

“What big arms you have, Hunter. Have you been working out?” Flattery would get me everywhere, but it was just for show.
