Lexie’s relationship with Randy Rick went way beyond the limits of any of her experiences to date. When her disastrous dabblings with the S&M community resulted in one twisted pervert after another, she’d tried Mandy’s suggestion of ads in the personal columns. It led to a little more success. But the only one who’d come close to real potential turned out to be married. She cringed as she remembered the denouement, turning up at the motel as usual.

When he didn’t answer her knock, she entered, hearing the sound of running water in the bathroom. A piece of paper on the bed caught her eye, and she read the message. “Strip. Then stand in the corner, facing the wall.”

Her eyes widened. This was new. And totally off script. Interesting. She quickly divested herself of the shirtwaist dress he’d requested she wear. Along with panties she wouldn’t mind getting destroyed. It didn’t take much to figure what he’d planned; a change of heart, maybe?

Moments after the shower stopped, the door opened, and a hand snaked out to kill the main lights. A shadow zipped across to lock the door and gather her clothes from the bed.

“Face the wall.” The low growl was unmistakably female.

Frick. This could only mean one thing. “I’m sorry. I had no idea Ben had a girlfriend.”

“Wife. And three kids. Tarts like you don’t care. How much did he pay you?”

“He didn’t.”

“More fool you. I checked it out. You could have charged fifty quid a trick. That’s what you say, isn’t it?”

“You’ve got it all wrong.”

“What? He told you he loved you?” She sneered, her voice ugly. “And you believed a guy who could only meet on Wednesdays in a motel?”

“Because that’s how I arranged it. I was paying him.” Lexie’s eyes screwed up as the main light came on.

“Liar. Turn round.” The nudity was obviously intended to put Lexie at a disadvantage, but the woman had no idea how comfortable Lexie was in her own skin. “You’re not a dog, so why steal other women’s husbands?”

“I told you, I had no idea. I saw the mark where he’d worn a ring, but I assumed he removed it after a divorce.”

“Oh. Is that what he said?”

“No. He never mentioned it and I didn’t think to ask.”

“Too busy playacting. I found a page from one of your dirty little scenes. Handcuffs,” she gulped, “and everything.”

“Look, I can’t apologise enough. Ben’s a sweet guy and you don’t deserve to be treated badly.”

“How do you know what I deserve? He did tell you.”

“Because you sound like a smart woman who probably works and then looks after those kids. I’m betting you’re just too tired by the end of the working day. And then you spend all weekend catching up on cleaning and shopping.”

The woman sank onto the bed, her face crumpling. “It’s not his fault. I can’t remember the last time I was still awake when he got to bed. I even fell asleep on Father’s Day. Although … well. You don’t need to hear it.
