“Is Miles bringing Jaxson’s car over here?” I asked.

“Yeah.”

“But I have his keys….” I pointed out.

“Miles has another set,” she said.

I looked back at the sound of banging pots and pans.

“Uh…Jaxson is cooking breakfast,” I said under my breath and stared at the man in my kitchen.

Jesus. He was perfect.

“Ohh! You need to latch onto that man! I swear girl!” Ray nearly yelled .

I laughed and continued watching him as he cracked open eggs into a bowl and then started stirring them with a fork. “We are just friends.”

“Oh, whatever! You can’t lie to me bitch. That man would do anything for you and that’s saying something,” she said.

I smiled and lowered my voice so that only she could hear me. “But you know why we can’t be more.”

She sighed emphatically. “Yeah, yeah. I know. It’s just sad that it has to be that way.”

I inhaled deeply and rubbed my temples. “Yeah…”

“Oh! We need to talk about this weekend!” she said and I laughed at her ability to change the subject so quick.

“Are you coming with Miles over here?” I asked.

“Yeah, so I’ll see you soon. Tell Jaxson to make sure he cooks enough for us, too!” she said and then hung up before I was able to respond.

“Ok…” I said anyway and pulled the phone away.

I leaned up to sit the phone on the coffee table and then turned around until I was kneeling on the couch with my arms rested on the back, “Ray said to make sure you cook enough for her and Miles.”

Jaxson poured the eggs into the frying pan. “They better hurry up then.”

I smiled. “How do you know your way around my kitchen anyway?”

He turned and sat the bowl in the sink and rinsed them out . “I can usually find my way around a kitchen. I spent enough time in my mother’s that it’s almost just second nature.”

I smiled. “Do you talk to your mom often?”

Once the bowl was rinsed out, he grabbed the pack of bacon and sliced it open. “Sometimes, but not as much as I should.”

“What about your dad?” I asked.

He threw the empty package away and then put the slices of bacon in a separate frying pan. “I don’t talk to him. Not since he left me, my brother, and mom when I was younger.”

I blinked in shock, how did I never know this? “Wow, I’m sorry.”

He turned to the sink, and twisted the faucet on to wash his hands, “It’s ok. I’m not fucked up about it now.”

Then it hit me. “Wait. You have a brother?”

Jaxson dried his hands off and then shut the water off before he turned to face me, crossing his arms over his chest as he leaned against the counter. “I do.”

I sat up straighter. This was a new side to Jaxson that I hadn’t seen or asked about, but I was curious.

“Is he younger or older?”

He uncrossed his arms, “We are twins, but I’m an hour older.”

My jaw dropped. “You have a freaking twin?!”

He laughed .
