CHAPTER NINE

(Tucker) The Show

After enjoying a delicious Italian dinner with Asher and Becca, it was time to see what all the fuss over this Jerrod designer was about. We made our way into the room, which had obviously been decked out for the fashion show. Asher had secured front row seats for us, right at the end of the runway.

“This guy’s a real genius,” Becca was saying. “No one else is doing what he does, as far as fashion goes. Can’t wait to see his plus-size stuff.”

Then suddenly the lights dimmed, and the sound of thumping bass and drums could be heard echoing throughout the room. It was showtime. A spotlight shined upon the stage, and it was then that I saw her—strutting down the stage like nobody’s business.

It can’t be…it has to be someone else.

She was wearing a beautiful red dress with a high slit on the side, showing ample cleavage and leg. But I would know that face anywhere…those perfect lips, which were perfectly painted…that gorgeous, luscious body.

“Mechelle,” I heard myself saying aloud.

Although the music was loud, Asher still heard me.

“What did you say?” he asked, leaning over.

“That’s, uh, Mechelle,” I replied, stunned. “The one I was telling you about.”

Asher raised an eyebrow, a grin lighting up his face. “Well then…you better get on that, man. Because this chick is really your type.”

“No shit,” I replied, my eyes following her as she pirouetted around and then turned back towards the entrance.

She was quickly replaced by another model, who was also beautiful but paled in comparison to Mechelle.

This is incredible, I thought. Like a movie or something. How is it possible that Mechelle is here?

It made a lot of sense to me that she was a model—of course she was. Obviously I wasn’t the only person in the world who had noticed that she was drop-dead gorgeous.

I wonder why she works at our building then, I thought.

I knew that I was supposed to be focusing on this experience like a business investor would, but I quickly found myself lost in obsessive thoughts about Mechelle all over again. And then she took to the stage again—this time in lingerie(!) It was as if the universe had finally heard my plea.

Now, I was no expert in women’s fashion. But Mechelle looked amazing—she was wearing some kind of a burgundy corset number, complete with stockings and a silk robe tied loosely around her waist. At this point, my lower body was at attention, my hungry eyes absorbing every detail of her beauty.

And then—as if she were somehow psychically feeling my presence—Mechelle looked me straight in the eye.

Hot damn, I thought, my entire body tingling as my pulse went up a few notches. But then—almost as soon as soon as she’d looked at me—she turned around, sashaying down the rest of the runway.

The rest of the show passed by like a blur. I only looked for Mechelle, and whenever she was offstage, I was fidgeting in my seat and plotting a way to meet up with her after the show…without looking like a creeper.
