Sunday came and at the appointed time, all parties boarded the gondola, and the Justice of the Peace performed his duties flawlessly; finishing, he handed Darcy and Draven their formal copy of a completed and signed marriage certificate.

It was done! After countless relationships over his long span of life, he was finally married! Married to the love of his life!

A strange feeling came over Draven as they returned to the room, “what’s wrong with me? This should be the happiest day in my long life; I’m getting some disturbing, unclear images in my head….. must be nerves and excitement over the whole event,” he reasoned. Still, a vague somewhat familiar image was bouncing around in his head! “Whose face is this,” he wondered! “Ah, probably nothing.

Thorne and Luna had watched the ceremony from a small café near the canal. They were careful to disguise themselves so that Draven would not get an image of their faces in his mind . What they didn’t know was that it worked! Both discussed his powers and the possibility of being detected; these powers worked best when a stressful situation was at hand. They were at the Venetian hotel merely to see if the Don’s men were able to eliminate Draven; they would report back to him the unsuccessful attempt!

Clearly the men failed and Thorne said to his wife, “I can only imagine the pain my nephew inflicted upon them before they died!”

Luna was afraid of Draven and the vast powers he possessed. He was almost always in control, but if set upon, could be the most vicious of all the clan members. She never felt relaxed in his presence; charm and good looks belied a part of him that was sheer evil.

“Do you think Darcy has ever witnessed his brutality?” Luna asked her husband.

“If she did, they wouldn’t be here getting married!”

“Umm, maybe she has a dark side we’re unaware of,” countered Luna.

Knowing that Draven and Darcy had taken the elevator up to their suite, they decided not to chance their returning and observing them. It was time to leave and report back to the Don! As they left the Venetian hotels main entrance, neither was aware of the piercing, reddish-amber eyes watching from the balcony in the suite high above.

“I knew I felt something,” Draven muttered to himself, “And they both will pay for their treachery! There can be no other explanation for their presence except participation in the events of the stairwell.”

Thorne and Luna both felt something was wrong, and Thorne’s hair began to stand on end!

“He knows! He knows about our being here; can’t you feel it?”

Thorne was desperate! Lunar responded in kind, “I feel it too, but how could he have discovered us? We left the hotel right after the ceremony,” she said.

“You know his powers! We must’ve underestimated him,” he said, “we need to fix this!”

“How,” she replied, “He’ll try to eliminate us for sure!”
