“Let’s boogey,” Shannon said. She stood up and pointed at the door. “You like whores, Joey?”

“What?”

“Never mind,” Shannon sighed. “Consider it a perk. You’ll understand later.”

“That’s all I have,” Shannon said.

“Well, that isn’t much to go on,” FBI Special Agent Steve Williams said. “I’ll run the name and see what pops, okay?”

“Sure, call me back.” Shannon hung up and sat back in her office chair, thinking about what she had gotten herself into. Casino owners, Mafia backers, a psychotic Special Forces guy who had decided that robbing a mob-backed casino was a good idea, and a bunch of every day dupes who were willing to carry out the plan. And then there was the mysterious Mr. Ippolito. “Why do I do this,” she sighed. Five minutes later, the phone rang.

“Best hit is a Carmine Ippolito,” Williams said. “Life long member of the Gambino crime family in New York. 59 years old, twenty six arrests, no convictions. He lives in Stamford. Charges included extortion, interstate transportation of an illegal substance, promoting prostitution, hijacking, conspiracy to commit murder, and murder for hire.”

“My kind of Friday night date,” Shannon said.

“Why are you looking at this Ippolito character?”

“He’s the bag man for a casino swindle involving Blackjack cheaters. They had fiber optic cameras built into the tables so they could see the dealers’ cards.”

“Cool,” Williams said. “That’s quite inventive. Who did it?”

“The contractor who built the place. The Silverline, up here in Connecticut. The guy is a Special Forces demolition expert, and he knows he’s been had. We’re looking for him. Oh, and according to a guy he grew up with, he killed thirteen girls in high school.”

“Sounds like somebody we should take an interest in,” Williams said. As the head of the Serial Killers Unit in Quantico, this was his thing. “What’s his name?”

“Jack Warner.”

“I’ll make a note of that. Be careful, Shannon. This sounds bad.”

“What else is new,” she sighed. ”Thanks, Steve. I’ll be in touch.”
