GARRETT

Safe in his home and thankful to be alive after the morning’s events, Garrett pressed his feet flat against the bathtub wall. Change. He commanded his toes. Then, he waited, watching, for the slightest bit of color variance in his skin tone.

Nothing happened.

Garrett squinted, focused so hard that he gave himself a headache. Change!

Again, nothing happened.

Sighing, Garrett bent his knees and sank further into the tub. The water filled his ears, muting the world as his mass sloshed water over the tub’s edge, spilling out. I don’t understand! How did I do that today? He closed his eyes, thinking back, trying to recall anything he could to help him bring on the changes.

The memory came quickly, still fresh in his mind.
