1. The arrangements made by C. Gracchus for the upkeep of side roads perhaps involves, as do others of his measures, borrowing from Greek experience.

2. It is unreasonable to suppose that in this or the preceding piece of legislation C. Gracchus was attempting to acquire the support of the equites as a group, let alone that a supposed new class of businessmen aligned itself with the opposition to the nobility after C. Gracchus. Few equites were publicani (see here) and few publicani were likely to sit on the new juries for the extortion court; the votes of the equites as a whole were presumably influential in the assembly which voted to acquit L. Opimius (see here).

3. The precise position over the permissibility of adjournment (which favoured the defendant) in this and subsequent laws is obscure.
