The flight back to the US had been quiet. They watched movies, slept, and ate. After refueling in LA, they moved on to Las Vegas. Liam blinked against the dry desert sunlight as he stepped off the plane.
âI feel like Iâm going to shed my skin.â Kiera rubbed lotion into her arms.
âLike a snake?â Liam made a face. âSnakes are good for one thing.â
âWhatâs that?â
âBoots.â
Kiera slapped him playfully. âYou think Iâm a snake?â
âNo. More like a cute lizard.â He pecked a kiss on her cheek, the one place she hadnât slathered with sunscreen.
âYou could be a frog,â said David as he passed, his hands full of luggage and a bag over each shoulder. âThey shed.â
Kiera scrunched her nose. âFrogs are slimy.â
David pointed at her lotion-covered arms.
âAt least Iâm not a camel,â she teased, nodding to the goatee heâd sculpted this morning.
David scowled.
Liam held back his laughter. His brotherâs blond facial hair did in fact remind him of a camel heâd ridden once. And with him carrying all the bags off the plane ⦠âHey, she could have called you a donkey.â
Kiera shrugged. âHeâs right. I was trying to give a compliment. Camels are exotic.â
David deposited the bags near the trunk of their town car. The driver, a man with a scar down his cheek and a slight limp, began loading them. âI have got to learn to keep my head down around you two.â
Kiera looked around. âWhat are we doing in Vegas anyway?â
âTime to make a childhood wish come true.â Liam rubbed his hands together. He didnât have a bucket list. Well, heâd had a bucket list, but he and David had run through it in the first month. Instead, he lived on a whim. This outing was a whim that was more fun than riding camels.
âAre we going to play with tigers, Siegfried and Roy style?â Kiera winked. She knew the duo was no longer performing, but they had a tiger habitat at the Mirage Hotel. With Liamâs money and connections, they might just get in. She would love to hold a tiger kitten.
Liam held the door and Kiera climbed inside.
âNo.â Liam slid in next to her.
âBungee jump off the Space Needle?â she guessed.
âNo!â David climbed in and sat across from Liam and Kiera.
She narrowed her eyes, considering Liam. âYou want to sing with Céline Dion?â
âPlease no.â David covered his ears. âLiam canât sing.â
âThatâs not true.â Liam picked up Kieraâs hand. âI can singâitâs just, no one wants to hear it.â
Kiera chuckled. âThen where are we going?â
âItâs a surprise.â Liam kissed the back of her hand.
âDo you know?â she asked David, who was staring out the window.
âHavenât a clue.â
âYouâll just have to wait.â
Kiera clenched his hand. âI hate waiting.â
Liam kissed her head, his heart full of joy.
A few minutes later, they pulled in to the Silverton Casino and were greeted by several bellhops and the hotel manager.
âMr. and Mrs. Bernhard, Mr. Bernhard, it is wonderful to have you here at the Silverton Hotel.â He shook their hands. The trunk popped open and their baggage was whisked away to their suite.
