Christian scanned the last piece of paper. He had discarded the rest on the seat to his right. He read the last few sentences, then placed it face down on the pile beside him.

Collins was looking at him with open curiosity. “What do you think?”

Christian pulled his second sandwich out of the plastic bag on the seat with the papers and unwrapped it. He took a bite without answering Collins.

The agent’s curiosity faded. “I got you the damn sandwiches, now start talking, Windsor.”

Christian couldn’t tell if Collins wanted to smile or hit him. Probably a little of both. He nodded as he finished his bite. “Sorry. I don’t usually stop eating until I’m done, and that was, like, a two-hour break.”

Collins pointed at the discarded papers. ”Your two killer theory doesn’t make sense anymore. In fact, I’d say it’s been proven wrong by the security footage from the hotel.”

Christian raised an eyebrow. “Huh? How?”

Collins turned his tablet around so the screen faced Christian. A silent video was running. “The security footage clearly shows a man wearing all black clothing and a backpack killing the front desk attendant early in the morning, then hiding her body and taking her keys. It shows him going up the elevator to the executive floor where the victim’s room was located. Although we lose him in the executive hallway, we know what happened next. There’s no accomplice on any of the hotel’s security footage.”

Christian looked away from the tablet and took another bite of his sandwich. Oddly, he wasn’t concerned about the circumstances the latest victim and the two women who’d been with him were killed in. He cared that they were dead, which was the reason he was here.

However, he needed to go back to his mansion, and he hadn’t been able to yet.

“There are two killers,” Christian responded. There wasn’t any point arguing the multiple killer angle, but since that was what Collins wanted to do, he had to defend it. “I’m not sure what else to tell you.”

“If we land this plane in Atlanta and you tell my boss your theory with all the evidence pointing to a single killer, you’re going to end up back in your cell.” Collins turned the tablet off. “I want you to understand that. You’ve got no proof, only conjecture coming from an imaginary mansion in your head and a crazy man locked up in an insane asylum.”

Christian shrugged. “We’re getting closer to catching them.”

Collins’ eyebrows raised in shock. “Really? If that’s true, I’d love to know how you think we’re going to get them. The video doesn’t show the man’s face. We have no idea who he is. He left no DNA. He’s a ghost.”

Christian took another bite and chewed slowly while he sought the words he needed. “Tommy didn’t believe me about Ted Hinson. He said there wasn’t any proof that those women were locked in Hinson’s basement, and that I was going to ruin my career breaking into his house. He said I was losing my mind.
