Chapter 9
Light Eater swarmed around Q as he floated outside the ship. He fired his pack's thrusters and launched between the stars. Light Eater became a mist of tiny glowing lights. The 4 massive stars of the Cogito system burned bright with a fiery heat and light. He picked out a point of empty space between them, and somehow knowing that it was where he needed to go.
Star Eaters floated between the 4 stars as they made their pilgrimage to death. When Q arrived in the centre of the stars, he looked up at the tiny particles around him, flashing with light as they transferred the energy that was their very lives into the stars.
He focused on the light itself, letting his mind connect to the pure energy which coursed around him. He could feel it pulsing through the empty space, connecting all the nothingness of the universe and tying it into one cohesive existence.
As his mind pulsed with energy, Q felt as if his thoughts had begun to turn inside out. It was as if he was a part of the Star Eaters, sharing this one consciousness across the cosmos, and he was looking back at himself and his own thoughts from an infinite array of perspectives, like a thought kaleidoscope. But it wasn't only him he was seeing, it was stars and planets, the interworkings of consciousness itself, the centre of knowledge. he saw strange things he couldn't explain, humanoid figures that weren't buzzing with the same energy that humans and even Star Eaters possessed. But mostly he saw light, pure, bright and clear energy. And as he watched the light bend and fold in upon itself, he suddenly knew what he needed to do.
Once Q was back on the ship he filled the crew in on what had happened and what he must do to open a new Rip. Light Eater agreed to help find the Synths, which turned out to be a race of artificial intelligence. And Q felt a new power swelling within and understood that his Energy had reached level two.
Most of the crew accepted Q as the champion that would return them home, but there were a few dissenters. Of course Gris didn't like it, but he understood what needed to be done. There were others who started a riot on the ship in protest against Q singlehandedly trying to create a new Rip. A mob gathered by the entry to the Central Command Hub which housed all military operations and personnel, as well as the Science Bay and Navigation systems. It was a self-sustaining area of the ship that could be ejected if needed.
Grace tried to stop him as he walked down the steps to the doors. Her tails flicked against him as she held him. "Don't go down there. It's not going to solve anything."
