Camella and I stood next to each other in the kitchen.

“Thanks for meeting with me again,” I said.

She raised a Twinkie into the air. “You’ve got me hooked on these now.”

“Yeah, they’re nice.” I smiled before taking another bite.

“I’m so excited about what you’re doing,” she said.

“So am I. We just need to come up with a better name for them. I was thinking something…”

“…easy to remember and without your name attached,” she interrupted.

I nodded. “Yeah. Like maybe…” I paused, thinking. Then it popped in my mind and out of my mouth in one fluid motion. “Green Centers.”

“Are you sure?” she asked then popped the last of her Twinkie in her mouth.

“I like it. Has a ring to it, don’t you think?”

Her head nodded. “I do, but I didn’t mean you have to have my name attached to it.”

“People might not know it’s your name,” I said.

“True.”

“You okay with that?”

She gave me the look I’d come to love. “Really? You have to ask?”

I laughed. “I guess not.”

“It was never really about my name,” she said.

“I know, but I like the way it sounds.”

“I can’t believe we’re opening a dozen of them at the same time.”

“And you’ll be in charge of all of them. Are you…”

“Ready?” she asked, finishing my sentence, something we did frequently.

I nodded. “Yeah, it’s a lot of work.”

“Oh, I know about hard work too,” she said.

“We both do.” I took a deep breath. “This project means a lot to me, though.”

“Why?” she asked bluntly, one of the reasons I enjoyed being around her so much.

“I’m not sure to be honest,” I said, looking into her eyes. “I mean, part of it has to do with me wanting to help you achieve your dream, but I also enjoy spending time around you.”

“You do, huh?” she asked, her face scrunched up as she studied mine.

“Not like that…” I stopped, not wanting to lie. “I mean, you’re beautiful and all, but my wife just died and…”

“I understand,” she said, reaching out to put her hand on my arm. “I really do. We can take it slow. Like…”

“…dinner first?”

She nodded. We both smiled.

“Good Twinkie,” she said, holding up the empty wrapper. “I didn’t think the banana ones would be good, but I almost like them more than the regular ones now.”

“I’m still a chocolate man myself,” I said with a straight face.

She rolled her eyes. “Here,” she said, handing me her wrapper. “Get rid of this so Alika doesn’t yell at both of us.”

I took the cellophane wrapper from her. “He’s a great guy.”

“How long has he worked for you?” she asked.

“I don’t remember exactly to be honest…”

“Six years, five months, three days, and…” We turned to see Alika walk in. He looked down at his watch. “Five hours.”

“It’s been that long?” I asked.

“Oh, I don’t know. I’m messing with you two.”

Why did he say us two? Does he think something is going on? Did he start the rumors about Camella and me?

I looked him over closely as he walked up to us.
