Chapter Eight

When he arrived at Paraíso, Jada looked beautiful. But she always does look absolutely gorgeous, Black thought, as Jada came toward him. She was wearing a Gucci silk gown with a black georgette satin one-strap with black and gold flower embroidery and an alluring front slit and a concealed back zipper with Gucci Bette suede and mesh sling-back, platform sandals with a five and a half-inch covered heel and one-inch platform.

The closer Jada got, the more his mind began to wander. In his mind’s eye, he could see her ease the strap off her shoulder. Jada reached behind her back and pulled down the zipper as she slowly came closer. Jada cupped her breasts to hold up the gown until she stood before him. Then she let the gown drop.

“Good evening, Mr. Black,”

“What did you say?”

“I said good evening, Mr. Black,” she repeated, and sat down next to him as she always did.

“I’m sorry, Ms. West. My mind was somewhere else,” Black said, and thought about telling her that each time he saw her, every minute he spent with her, made him want to be inside her again.

“I see.” Jada signaled for a waitress. “Will you have a glass of champagne with me?” Jada asked as Black looked up and saw Jamaica come through the door.

“I need to speak to Jamaica first, but yes, Ms. West, I would love to share some champagne with you.” Black stood up. “Go ahead and have it sent over and I will join you soon.”

“I’d prefer it to be cold, so I will wait until you’re done.”

“Good. I won’t be long,” Black said and walked toward Jamaica. He led him outside before they spoke.

“What do you know about Harry’s cousin Junior?”

“I hear that Deidra thought he had too much influence on Harry, so she convinced Harry to give him a spot to run in the sticks.”

“You hear what made Deidra think that?”

“Him, Harry, and another cousin used to rob together in Miami. Junior and the other cousin got caught and did time, while Harry came back here with Deidra.”

“Harry felt guilty.”

“Sounds like.”

“Deidra said that he came to her shop today and accused her at gunpoint of selling Harry out to us.”

“She did.”

“I know.”

“You want me to take care of him?”

“No. I told Deidra to take care of it, but if she needed help to ask. But I want you to put somebody on him, just in case Deidra can’t handle him. I don’t want any surprises.”

He was surprised when Harry refused his offer and two hours later, he sent men to set Paraíso on fire and take a shot at Jada. Black looked at her and knew that it was a mistake he would never make again. Just then, a man came out on the pool deck.

“Black?” he said, and both Black and Jamaica turned to face him. “Mike Black and Jamaica,” he said and came closer.

Black looked closer. “Hicks, Joe Hicks?”

“The one and only,” Joe said with handshakes and hugs.

They had known Joe Hicks since the old days.
