Two hours and one empty box of tissues later, Liz, Sherry, and Dawn sat on the couches in the reception area. All three women looked as though they’d had a good cry, but they’d also managed to avoid the horror film status Sherry had achieved earlier that morning.

The samples of coffee cake had been gone well into the first hour, and Liz was on her third cup of coffee that Sherry had had delivered by one of her employees.

Liz had really taken to Sherry. She was a sweet woman with such an infectiously positive personality. Liz was certain that there was no way in hell she’d be handling the crumbling of a ten year relationship even remotely as stoically as Sherry seemed to be doing. And from here on out, she’d decided she was officially going to boycott tequila. Women had to stick together. It was the valiant thing to do. The funny thing was, Liz hadn’t even thought of business while listening to Sherry tell her story. But now that they were sitting in silence, taking in the current status of their own individual lives, Liz knew she she’d found the perfect match for James.

She was just about to ask Sherry to come back to her office when the front door opened and in walked a cliché of a man, talk dark and handsome. Carrying a newspaper, he looked over at the ladies with a smile.

“Well isn’t this an honor. I get to deliver the newspaper directly to the famous millionaire matchmaker this time.” His stride was suave and sure and Liz couldn’t help but notice the baby blue eyes that stood out from his jet black hair and tan skin.

He continued, “Today must be my lucky day. Three beautiful women sitting here before me. It’s a pleasure, ladies.” He handed the newspaper to Liz.

“Thanks…um…” As Liz hesitated, not knowing the newspaper man’s name, Dawn came to her rescue, whispering his name as subtly as possible in her ear. “Michael. Thank you, Michael, for the paper.”

“You’ll have to excuse her, Mike. She’s running on coffee fumes and at best, thirty minutes of sleep the last couple of days.” Dawn volunteered. Liz decided she was way too tired to punch Dawn hard in the shoulder like she wanted to.

“Well, I wouldn’t have guessed it.” Michael flashed Liz a smoldering smile. “I better get going. I’ve got a few more deliveries to make. Ya’ll have a great day now. It was good to see you, Ms. Matchmaker.” His eyes locked on Liz and his smile never wavered as he headed for the door and left.

“Okay, what was that about?” Sherry asked with excitement in her voice.

“I think the newspaper man has a crush on my boss.” Dawn teased.

“Since when do we have a new guy delivering the paper anyway?” Liz responded, choosing not to acknowledge Dawn’s ridiculous last comment.

“Since Billy went on some sort of African safari hiatus a few months ago. Where have you been?

“How does this Michael know who I am, anyway? I’m hardly ever out of my office.
