Chapter 8

The place he chose was already bustling with people and I squared my shoulders as we were led to our table. Zared hasn’t stopped touching me since we left the house. In the car he held my hand, when he wasn’t clasping my thigh like he owned it, which he did. Now he kept his hand in the small of my back, his thumb teasing the soft flesh that was left exposed by the diamond cutout in the back of my dress.

After we were seated and the waiter brought over our menus, he took my free hand in his, again with the thumb, only this time he was tracing patterns in my palm. Talk about sexual overload, I was going to combust before the day was over.

“Your pulse is racing again babygirl calm down.” Was he insane? Did he have nay idea what this was all doing to me, how did he expect me to remain calm? I don’t think I’d ever know that emotion again, not as long as he kept up his assault on my senses.

“You won’t be needing that.” I’d opened up my menu but stopped at his words. He had his head down as he read over the choices. I’d seen enough to know that the place was very expensive and that the menu was written in French.

He ordered for both of us and I was surprised that he knew what I liked to eat; I wonder what else he knew about me? For the past few years we’d become almost strangers barely exchanging words unless in anger.

“You look beautiful babygirl, that color does amazing things to your skin.” Okay now I know he’s trying to kill me. A sweet attentive Zared was something I’d have to get use to; not that he hadn’t been sweet and kind in the beginning, before I started my campaign to make him nuts; but this was different. This wasn’t the sweetness of a guardian for his ward, but more like a man for his woman.

I barely tasted the seafood entrée he’d ordered for me, my mind filled with the days ahead, and more importantly the night. How would I add up? Will he be disappointed, will he regret his decision to marry me and have me sign myself over to him? And how the hell was I going to get that thing in me? There’s no way it would fit. Damn.

“Be calm babygirl.” How did he know, could he really be that attuned to me, and since when?
