9 Shock & Awe

We put the video that Bishop shot on my blog and people went absolutely nuts for it. Within a few hours the thing had over a million views, and both bands saw their website views and merch sale shoot through the roof as a result. Their follower counts on social media soared as well.

“Holy shit, Jo!” Bishop shouted as he entered the bus after their morning interview with yet another local radio station. “Did you see?” I grinned at him but didn’t get to respond before he continued. “They asked us about it at the interview. I didn’t even realize we had blown up like that. Last I checked, there had been 200,000 views and I thought that was fucking awesome. Plus, they told us about all the fans from the last couple of shows who talked about getting to do the speed-date with a rock star thing. EJ checked, and now all of our VIP spots for the rest of the tour are completely sold out.”

My eyes bulged at the news. “That’s fantastic!” I jumped up and hugged Bishop as the other guys gathered around and closed me into a giant group hug.

“Jo,” Vin said my name tentatively and when I turned, he smiled even as the tips of his ears burned red. “I want you to know that I discussed things with the rest of the band last night, and I’m totally on board with what they want to present to you today. I promise not to make things awkward on the bus, and we set some rules in place for the remainder of the tour.”

“O-kaaay.” I drew the word out.

“I’m going to let them talk to you about it while I go attempt to pull my head out of my ass.”

I nodded and then glanced back toward Bishop and EJ as Chet threw his arm around my shoulder. “So, what’s up?”

“I was serious when I mentioned having you stick around as a tour manager, Jo. We talked about it. The pay will be abysmal at first, but we’re going to outline a way to pay you back for this tour with money we get from the next one too.” Bishop explained as he winked at me. “Two things happened on this tour that changed it from us skating by with just enough sales, to starting to sell out dates and completely selling out VIP tickets and backstage passes.” He grinned at me as I stared wide-eyed at him.

“What two things?” I asked.

“The fact that you played along last night and posted that video, and the experience you gave to our fans by organizing shit during the meet and greet.”

“Well,” I waved all that away. “That’s nothing. It just made sense. And the whole video thing was really thanks to you filming it and Alli singing me a song.”

“Right, it all revolved around you. We don’t just want you here now, we need you too. You’re taking us from mediocrity to greatness without needing a record company’s power backing the plays.
