Chapter Twelve

Clarence and Wilkens couldn't fathom what they were seeing. In front of them was the source of the viral blobs. It was the mother bug, and she towered way over their heads. Wilkens’ rendering software depicted the mother of all viruses as a huge mechanized spider-like bug. It pulsed, releasing viral blobs from the end of its abdomen while simultaneously emitting gurgling sounds.

“Look at that mother!” yelled Wilkens.

“It looks like we found BugsE in our system,” said Clarence.

“I like that. BugsE, it is. That’s her name,” said Wilkens.

Suddenly it all made sense to Clarence. The research window Wilkens had opened in the central control room was on Myrmecology, the study of ants. “Do you think she’s like a queen ant?”

“That’s my theory,” answered Wilkens.

“How do we take her down?”

“Your guess is as good as mine.”

The two men stood there as BugsE continued spurting out the viral blob babies at a rapid pace.
