We are now going to focus on a mantra for about ten min-

utes. Your mantra is simple: it is the word “compassion.” So simply relax and allow your mind to be clear of thoughts. When

you feel sensations in your body, simply repeat the word “com-

Now that we have stepped online, there are infinite chances

for connection twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week.

overstimulated, running around in circles. That’s all of us on the Internet at various times.

Being online is major part of our lives now. We use it for

work, entertainment, connection, shopping, finding informa-

tion—basically everything. And social interaction and connec-

tion happen there for us all at varying degrees.

Connecting and being entertained online can be a little bit

addicting. In fact, recent studies have shown how dopamine,

the neurotransmitter, not only rewards us with a chemical

hit when we act but also encourages us to act beforehand, in-

spiring the thrill of the hunt. Because the Internet is radically quick, we run through this cycle at breakneck speed hundreds

of times per day. Seek info. Get info. Seek again. Find again.

Each of those gives us a shot of dopamine and signals feedback for expected rewards.
