‘Get Paul on speaker, Jenny.’ The engine of Sam’s little Mini roared into life as she performed a U-turn in Keir Hardy Avenue and pointed the car toward New Middridge.

‘Paul? I want you to get round to Johnson & Co Insurance and ask them if they have, or ever have had, an employee named Christopher Simpson. Our Mr Beecham’s not averse to using an alias. An address would be brilliant too – oh and take a photo of Beecham – if he can use one alias he might use another. We’re heading back now – we’ll meet you at the station in an hour for a brainstorming session.’ Sam was fully motivated once more, a light at the end of the tunnel, albeit very faint.

‘Using another name would certainly explain the lack of any kind of trail on Beecham. It’s incredible how he’s got away with so much,’ Jenny observed.

‘He chooses his women carefully and uses fear as his weapon of choice.’

Sam remained silent for the rest of the journey, mulling over everything they knew about Beecham and disliking him more with each new piece of information they uncovered.
