Hayley was frozen in place, staring down at Jason, still bleeding from the stab wound, his trouser leg ripped away and revealing the now drenched in blood napkins.

‘He’s losing too much blood,’ she said, moving in finally, twisting the knot on the tourniquet, trying to tighten it. All this did, however, was wrench on the wound itself, causing Jason to almost sit up, doubling over in pain as he screamed out.

‘Ahh! You bastard!’

‘That doesn’t sound good,’ the voice of Justice spoke through the speakers. ‘That sounds like he’s dying.’

‘He’s losing too much blood,’ Hayley repeated, this time to the window. ‘Help us!’

‘He won’t help us,’ Victoria snapped. ‘He wants us dead.’

‘That’s not fair. If I wanted you dead, I would have already done it,’ Justice replied. ‘Through the head, from a distance. But I don’t want you dead, Mrs Harvey—’

‘I told you, it’s Ms,’ Victoria snapped back.

‘Christ’s sake!’ Miles cried out. ‘Why does it matter?’

‘I don’t want you dead, Ms Harvey,’ Justice was almost mocking in his response. ‘I want you paying for your crimes. One of you will take the blame, sure, but the rest of you will find yourselves hounded by the press for the rest of your lives, and to die right now is just escaping the storm that’s coming.’

‘Well, you should have thought about this before you gave that stupid old bastard a knife!’ Eddie shouted in response.

‘Hindsight is always twenty-twenty, Mister Purcell,’ Justice replied calmly. ‘As well you know. But, if it helps, let me make this perfectly clear. If Mister Taylor dies, Miss Moran, I will kill you as well.’

There was a moment of stunned quiet in the room.

‘You literally just said you didn’t want us dead!’ Devin shouted.

‘I don’t want you dead,’ Justice explained. ‘But that doesn’t mean I won’t do it to get what I want. And right now, I want Mister Barnett alive.’

‘I can’t save him!’ Hayley cried. ‘I don’t have the tools!’

‘Oh, is that the only reason?’ Justice replied in a sing-song manner.

‘Yes!’ Hayley spat. ‘If I had the right equipment I could save him, so how about you let us save him and stop playing these games!’

‘There. “Let us save him.” That’s what I wanted to hear,’ Justice seemed almost proud of Hayley’s response. ‘Why call upon medics when you can do it yourself? Ms Harvey, open draw three, remove the contents – there’s two in total to be removed – and place them on the boardroom table. Do not open them.’

Looking confused at the others in the room, Victoria walked over to the cabinet, looking along it until she saw the brass “3” attached to a door.

Opening it, she reached in, pulling out a first aid box.

However, when she reached in again, she pulled out a second, identical box. Both were about the size of a shoe box, and as she picked them up with a frown on her face, she walked back to the table.

‘Pass me one of those, quickly,’ Hayley begged.

‘No,’ Justice ordered. ‘Not yet. Ms Harvey, please place them on the table.
