I awoke when a warm body climbed onto the bed and pressed against me.

“Katie.”

My heart tripped in my chest.

“Jace?”

“Yes, baby.”

He reached out and wrapped his arms around me, and I could just make out his handsome face framed in the moonlight streaming through the window.

For a moment, happiness filled me, and then the events of earlier in the evening sprang into my mind, and I pushed him away.

“Hey, what’s wrong?”

I wasn’t sure what to say. We’d never had any kind of discussion about what was going on between us. Was I just his employee? Was all of this just “meeting his personal needs” as the contract I signed had stated?

Again, he pulled me into his arms, and this time, I couldn’t bear to push him away.

“Talk to me, Katie.”

“What am I to you?” I blurted. “Am I just your employee?”

“Of course not, how could you think such a thing?”

“I don’t know. We never talked about it. About what happened in your rec room.”

“Oh, Katie. I’m sorry. I had every intention of us sitting down and talking about it that next morning, but then I got called away on urgent business. One of my companies was in trouble, and I had to go sort things out.”

“You never texted me while you were away, and you only called me once…and it was for—well you know what.”

“Katie, that wasn’t why I called you. I wanted to talk to you. To see your face.”

“Among other things,” I muttered.

He laughed.

“Okay, so that’s true. I wanted to see the rest of you too.”

I smacked him in the arm.

“You’re not helping!”

He brushed an errant strand of hair from my face.

“What, you don’t like the fact that I want to look at you?”

“Do you really? Like to look at me?”

“Of course, I do! You’re beautiful!”

“You mean I don’t disgust you?”

“No! Whatever would give you that idea?”

I struggled with how much to tell him, but finally decided he needed to hear it all.

“Tiffany.”

I relayed the entire conversation that I’d heard in the dressing room. The more I talked, the harder his face became.

“First of all, I don’t ‘have her’. She’s just an old friend. Second of all, you looked amazing in that dress. I loved the way it clung to your body, and I thought you were sexy as hell in it.”

He trailed his fingers down my cheek.

“On the ride home, all I could think of was taking you in my arms and making you scream like you did the other night.”

My body immediately responded to his words. I didn’t know what it was about him, but just one look, word, or touch could instantly turn me on.

He grasped my chin and held my face up so that our eyes met. The intense hunger radiating from his ice blue eyes took my breath away.

“Is that what you want, baby? You want to scream for me?”

“Yes…sir,” I whispered.

“Tonight, I’m just Jace,” he murmured as he bent down and kissed me gently. The soft press of his lips against mine transformed into a heated clutch with his tongue darting between my lips to probe into my mouth.
